MMI Connect app?

Do NOT believe what the dealers tell you! They told me same thing!
The thing is they just don't understand the new technology. They couldn't even tell me how any of the tech pack or virtual cockpit worked!

@BeagleKCH If you read what other owners (MY16 & MY17) have said above, you DO need a data sim plan which is an additional cost.

Has anyone with an embedded SIM MY17 car with the Tech Pack managed to get Connect with Google Maps working without the need for an additional SIM?

Or without buying an additional data package from Audi, on top of any that comes as part of the Tech Pack

I've got a MY17 with the embedded SIM. All the Connect features are working as far as I can see (the traffic data updating the nav routing, for example) and I haven't paid any extra for data: I haven't tried Google Maps yet, though, but will have a look when I get chance and let you know. In the manual (p225) it explicitly says that data costs for Audi Connect are included in the cost of the Connect subscription (thus in the cost of the Tech Pack) apart from services that use the wifi hotspot e.g. online media that need an additional data plan. So, it looks like for the standard Connect features you shouldn't need anything else apart from the embedded SIM.

The standard connect features do indeed work straight away. The google map won't work until you put an active SIM card with data in and then it works along with the advanced connect features.
You can see all these features coming available before your eyes when you insert this SIM card.

^ I'll try this tonight, going to take out my sim and see if the google map works or not :)

Hello,

I have signed up to this forum because of this thread. I've bought a new A4 B9, ordered begin june and delivered about a week ago (belgium).
I have in essence the problem that i cannot upload lists of POI to the car (in MyAudi they are called special destinations). There are two ways: upload them directly to the car or put them on an SD-card. Both don't work. In the car you can import them by doing a 'software update' either online or by selecting the SD-card. Online updating the car tells that 'there is no access to the server'. Updating from the SD-card tells me that the update is invalid (the SD-card gets created by MyAudi though, tried different ones, can't do it wrong). I figured that i maybe have to be the key user to be able to do all that. I did everything as described with the PIN and mTAN code except... i haven't found the option in the MMI either to enter the secure code that is attached to the key. Frustrating. That's when I read this thread.

So I just bought a 3G sim card and installed that into the car to see if that would help. Logged out and back in with my account. The SIM-card definately works but the option to enter the vehicle code is still not there unfortunately, and it doesn't add any functionality over the eSIM card that is build into the car either. I can't lock/unlock the vehicle from distance or download status reports of the car. Not that it is important, but i think its all part of a bigger problem... the connection to MyAudi doesn't work like it should. The MMI Connect app for iPhone should have a "Car" tab to according to the screenshots in the app store, which i don't have.

I'm happy to follow the reactions here and see what might come up. I've also send an email to Audi Belgium to have a look at it, maybe they have the answer we are looking for.

PS. My audi came with a very bad GPS signal too; the arrow updated only each 5-6 seconds which made it unusable. It got a softwareupdate at the dealer immediately and that fixed the problem. So i'm quite sure the car now has the latest software/firmware.

Hopefully I can shed some light onto the subject.

I have a MY17 car with the e-sim and can confirm that I have all data features with the exception of in car wi-fi. This includes Google Earth, Street View, POI, Weather, News, Petrol Prices... etc.
I have the Tech Pack with the MMI+

Is that perhaps because you don't have the embedded SIM? Certainly looking at some of the comments from the handful of recent MY17 owners, they appear to be getting the whole package (apart from the hotspot feature) via the embedded SIM.

Unfortunately MY16 owners will need a data SIM inserted to use the advanced features.

I so want the luck/unlock feature to be available here soon!!!

It's taken me a little time, but the differences between MY16 and MY17 Audi Connect are in fact set out in the respective brochures.

I'm just going by what the MY17 owners are saying. When I ordered my brochure, the salesman and the brochure made no mention that a separate sim was needed.
If that is the case, it seems unfair that my car was made a few days before the MY17 (it should have been MY17 but was made a week early!) and I will have to pay at least £120 for data per year whilst possibly a MY17 owner might not?!!
No mention was made in any brochures at the time that a separate data sim was needed and it states all the functions such as google Earth are available from day one!

On a side note, Google street view does not work as stated either! Mightly annoyed!!

If I was in your position i'd be annoyed too. The publishing date on that MY17 brochure is May 2016, so that was probably the one that you saw, which doesn't explain that MY17 builds were only due to start 6 or 7 weeks after publication. I believe that Google Street View only works when the car is stationary.

Yes that's right google street view only works when stationary. If you read my other list in this subject, it's been missold as it was advertised as google street view was available for navigation and I have seen it in use on the TT as well! One of the main reasons I got the tech pack.

I think i'd be complaining to Audi about that - sounds like you have indeed received a MY16 car when you were expecting a 17. I never managed to get Street View to work on the MY17 demonstrator I had last week - but I didn't investigate fully.

Hi again,

I've been calling with the importer who really seem to know alot of the Connect services and all steps that should be made to be able to use all services. Apparently it's really not normal that there is no option 'User Management'. Without adding yourself as primary user in de car by entering the code that came with the keys, the services can't work fully and there will be only online options that don't include car-settings and other safety-sensitive features. Google maps and online destinations and traffic info are not being concidered as sensitive so that all works out of the box regardless the driver/user of the car. That's all the functionality we now get.

They said that everyone who doesn't have this menu should complain about it to give it some weight. They are now contacting the Audi Connect division to pass the problem. I've send them pictures with all steps and the point where the things don't work as they should.

A4B9, I'd be annoyed too. A shame it wasn't spotted before you collected it.
It seems what Audi customer services told me a couple of weeks ago is correct for MY17 cars then. Additional sim only needed for hotspot.
I had a hell of a quandary whether to order the tech pack/VC. I'm a tech nerd, but just couldn't justify the extra cost for a flashy screen. if it was all under 1K then maybe, but no way for the actual cost. Carplay should fulfil all my requirements, but I too am looking forward to the software updates that will allow the remote car features to be enabled.

Yeah just to confirm I tried taking out my external sim card and everything was still working fine (google maps, all the audi connect features, streetview) MY2017.

Now I just need to get the freaking unlock/lock,car status, heating function to work on my app!!!

I haven't seen anything in the brochure about remote lock / unlock and the dealer hasn't mentioned it. I wonder if it isn't officially released in the UK yet?

thought it was about time I got in contact with Audi UK again about the MMI Connect app and they tried to fob me off by saying it will be available on MY18 cars. I pointed out that the MyAudi website and the manual for my MY16 car both mention the the remote features and suggest that it was misleading - so they said they'll get in contact with their technical team and call me back on Tuesday with a proper answer. It's incredible how very little Audi know about this

^ They are absolutely useless, they told me its not compatible for my car and only compatible with MY17 and mine WAS MY17!!!

Ok here goes..

I had a follow on chat with the rep from Glasgow and it seems "User Management" does need to be enabled by Audi via a remote server which as yet isn't set up (early demonstrators may have left the factory with this enabled)

One reason for the holdup is the online connection to the vehicle between Phone/Tablet and Sim/E-Sim, it seems there's concerns with drivers being able to activate vehicle functions remotely when the car could be integer Audi workshop. Whilst I can understand and appreciate this I can't help wondering about the chuckles that would follow seeing the Tech disappear from screen on AudiCam as the wipers/horn etc inadvertently goes off during work.. No doubt as a result of one of my mini humans stealing my phone again.

tldr/ they're still working on it.

stldr/ Only thing you need a separate plan/sim for is tethering (tech pack 3y, SL/Sp 3months)

But that reason doesn't hold up because apparently these features are already enabled on the Q7. Sounds like more made up excuses to me

Out of curiosity, does the Tech Pack include the "Convenience Key" and/or do you have the Comfort Pack ?

Just got this email from Audi, I got the MY17, really confused now!

"Further to your recent contact with Audi Customer Services regarding Connect Services in your Audi A4. Please accept my
apologies for the late response.

Having spoken with our Technical Support Team, they have confirmed that to activate the unlock/lock message status, aux heating
feature, the system would need to include Audi Connect Emergency and Services (vehicle-related services). Unfortunately, as your
vehicle does not include this service, the function is not available.

I hope this information is helpful. If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me on the details below."

According to this link:

https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en...convenient-the-new-audi-connect-services-4862

"The optional Audi connect safety & service equipment package is available with immediate effect for all new Audi Q7 and A4 models at a one-off price of EUR 250."

So that ties in with what Audi UK told you - but it's odd that option is not currently offered here. Maybe it's still work in progress?

It also says "Two buttons in the roof module for emergency and roadside assistance calls are also part of the package."

This implies it would work if you can see the emergency buttons on the roof

I tried to setup the "Audi connect vehicle control services" today using the myAudi website and hit the inability to get the "Audi Connect user management " page to set me as the primary user.

Have asked my dealer to have a look at this for me. I produced the Registration Agreement so perhaps it just takes some time for that to get authorised on the web and come back to the car...

so many different answers here lol! one day we will find out!

Right picked up mine today. MY17

No key user option. Dealer seemed clued up today. Remote vehicle systems IS NOT available yet. But will be coming. Apparently a few new features coming too. Code on the fob is now a QR code, not a scratch off panel. Now essential fob isn't lost.

My car only has the embedded sim. Audi connect working perfectly and so is Google Maps. Technically licence should only be 3 months (non tech pack) but mine is valid for 12 months for some reason. Dealer advised that connect can be extended when expired. Cost is £320 for a further 36 months! A price I'll definitely not be paying.

Now what has left me scratching my head is the Wifi connectivity. Currently I have absolutely no requirement to tether any devices. So I won't be purchasing an additional card. However the embedded sim is broadcasting an SSID. Once connected it asks you to verify using the "data inside" website to become sim owner and to purchase a data plan. I take it this is purely to create a wi if hot spot using the embedded sim rather than an additional sim inserted? The MMI does however require you to be connected to the car SSID to be able to use the MMI app. Again though, I can't really see a reason to use the app..... Am I missing something?

You are not missing something. You can use all connect services with the free plan you get for 3 months after picking up the car. Obviously it doesn't include streaming and other excessive data usage. If you want to listen to online radio stations, or make use of the wifi connection in the car you must either buy a data plan for the e-sim or put in your own sim.

I still can't use the myAudi Special Destinations though. They made some changes to myaudi.com yesterday but it's not helping.
I think i'm gonna demand another three months of connection services as soon as everything works as advertised.

I have more information. I've been in touch with Audi Belgium (i'm from belgium). At their headquarters they have all different types of cars with all different engines of the same model that people can test drive (the dealers send us there to test drive). I made the complaint that i didn't have the user management menu and i can't import POI lists into the car to them, since I thought they probably have more to say than a dealer. They tried to reproduce the issue in their different A4's and it turns out that they have exactly the same problem, with ALL of their A4's (i think only SD versions of the MMI). So even them haven't got a solution. They told me that only Audi AG Germany is able to solve this, since it's a firmware issue they can't possibly solve.

Apparently they can't get Audi Germany to look at it themselves. The only way is 'escalate' the problem through the dealers so Audi AG gets obligated to look at it. To do this, at least 5 dealers must report the same issue within a certain timespan. They asked my dealer to report the issue for me. Their message:

"We cannot solve the issue of your client. The team of Audi Connectivity asks if you could create a DiSS about this, so it can be escalated through PCC to Audi AG."

Dear all,

Am new to the forum hence my sincere apologies for any mistakes/omissions or if my msg is too long

I ordered my A4 B9 2.0 TDI 190 PS, S Line Mythos black, in April 16 after trading in my A4 B8. The car was ordered at Plymouth Audi and I was told by the sales executive that it will be delivered in June and will be a MY 2016. Roughly after three weeks of placing the order the sales executive called me and said the delivery will be slightly delayed as the car I have ordered has gone into MY17. I asked him what's the difference between the two he said NONE! I ordered technology pack , matrix LED headlamps, virtual cockpit , Audi connect package ( please note data package free for 36 months) so on and so forth. Since I was very much confused with the data package I rang up the dealer who said I still have to pay for the data package and the 36 months free is for Audi connect package !

Since the conversation with the sales executive didn't help me much, I did a bit of research on google and found on Audi website much detailed info. It also mentioned since June 2016 all A4, Q7 will be manufactured with E- sim or embedded sim.

This raised my doubts again so I called the sales executive and asked him does my car come with e-sim? He said he just had a training on it, however not sure whether it will be fitted or not.

I waited patiently for a month or two whilst reading about Audi connect, Audi connect user management etc.. It clearly says on myaudi that "one should scratch off and reveal the numbers from the plastic fob that came with the car" and should enter it into the car MMI system to set yourself as the key user.

When the car was delivered in July the plastic fob was missing and I asked the sales executive and he said Audi haven't supplied any. However when I received the car Audi Connect was already enabled and I could see the LTE connection status on MMI .

After reading through the manuals I found out "Audi connect user management " option was missing on my car MMI! I did everything as per myaudi website, pin, MTAN verification etc

I also read on this forum about two months back that some cars had the SOS button and SERVICE BUTTON by the overhead reading lamps which was also missing on my car!

Couple of days after I received my car I noticed a small transportation dent on the car and Plymouth Audi happily took ownership of the damage and repaired it free of cost. They also gave me a MY16 A4 B9 which was registered in April 16. I found that this car the two buttons by the reading lamp and when I selected Audi connect it showed "full functions not available" , only limited options available and when I selected that it showed Audi user connection management.! I believe the reason why it doesn't give full access is bcos it doesn't have an e-sim or an external sim inserted in the glove compartment . The courtesy car also had a separate storage compartment under the steering wheel which my car doesn't have. I went to the dealer and raised the issue with service manager . He sat with me and couldn't also find the user management option on MMI. He also ordered the missing key fob for the car which took 2 weeks to arrive.

I spoke to Audi UK and spoke to a guy called Murasser! He apparently spoke to the technical team who confirmed that this option is not yet available . I asked why has Audi given all these false information on myaudi website to which he answered it's a direct translation fromGerman hence its bound to have mistakes . On myaudi website it clearly says under Audi connect user management/instructions as an owner of A4 or Q7 you should have this feature.

He also asked me whether my car has SOS BUTTON AND SERVICE BUTTON , I said no and asked what's the relation between these two to which he had no answer! He also said a very few "demonstrator" cars have been launched with this feature.

I emailed Germany and they replied that the case has been forwarded to the importer which is Audi UK, however they will investigate and would reply to me soon, this was almost 45 days ago, never heard from them since.

I am really annoyed and feel VAG has let us down after the emissions issue and to be honest nobody wants to take accountability of the issue.

My brother in law who lives in America had few issues with his brand new Q7 and the dealer gave him a MY 17 B9 (petrol) as a courtesy car which had all these features! So it's a lie when they say these features have not been enabled yet!

I am planning to compose another email to Audi Germany and will update u all if at all I receive a reply.

I personally think we all should bring up this matter with Audi Uk/Audi GMBH/ dealer.

Good luck

I am also facing another issue with car dunno if any of you are facing the same..

I was on the motorway with the cruise control enabled at speeds of around 80 MPH, suddenly the MMI screen and virtual cockpit screen went blank and the cruise control disabled automatically , couldn't enable it for the rest of the jouney. Took it to the dealer they found 4 error codes, data bus communication problems , however they don't know what to do , they are waiting for a feed back from Audi technical team .

This problem reappeared again last week however this time only the virtual cockpit went blank.. However the radio, maps would not work on the virtual cockpit until you power it down!

@Raj If you are paying for data well it sounds like you have a MY2016 car. My car was built in June but it's still a MY2016 car and I still have to pay for data.

Would be great if Audi provided a SIM card to MY16 owners which replicates the embedded sim for the life of out Connect subscription

@ScottishA4B9 , no mine is a MY17 car, it was the first few cars to be manufactured with an e-sim. I don't pay anything for the data for Audi connect functions, it comes on my screen as LTE connection and it also says on my manual.

What was I was trying to say was the staff at the dealers are poorly trained by Audi whenever a new model is rolled out and they seem to learn just like us through experience or customer feedback etc.

When I ordered the car, Audi connect (3 years package) was one of the option I chose, so I asked the sales executive what is free for 3 years? He said as per the training he had the only free bit is Audi connect package (from Audi) , how to access it or the data package for it is not free and will have to use an external sim for it.

However when the car came it had the e-sim with Audi connect package for 3 years. However no luck with Audi connect user management function on MMI.;(

Ah yes I think some other MY2017 owners were saying you have to buy an additional data sim. It is worth it as the full connect services are great.

I agree about the staff not being trained. I had the first new A4 with the tech pack and virtual cockpit at that dealership and they couldn't tell me how any of it worked!
