Carista App

I'm guessing with their update they've removed support for some third party dongles.

I just installed Carista v2.3 and its the same, it has to be the elm? I tried with torque and it works(reads no fault and other info)

No, I'm for ever hopeful, next issue just around the corner? I'm still waiting for 2016MY Polo support for my wife's car - am I wasting my time waiting, that car is included in the Beta version I think.

I emailed them, and asked what other updates we could expect, the nice chap replied asking if there was anything specific I was after, so I emailed most of the VCDS mods, so fingers crossed!

I think you might be right. I've just logged on for the first time in a while, using the same generic ELM dongle that I've always used before, and it's not allowing me to customise anything. I'm about to contact Carista help, but I'm really starting to think we're being taken for a ride.

Mine is working but some customizations don't work.

Like the turn signal "wink" and keeping the speed gauges lit while lights are off.

Carista replied to me:
"We support them only from 2009. Unfortunately even with our adapter you will not be able to perform customization or run manufacturer-specific diagnostics"

Futher reply from Carista:
"Audi changed the protocol for manufacturer-specific OBD communication around 2009. Most adapters use different type of communication, so we cannot implement support for now. Let us know if you have any more questions. "

@jdp1962 - Any update on this Jeff ?

Just enabled a few things today that I've been meaning to do for a while on Carista
Used the ELM OBD port device with no probs at all
Enabled -
Lap timer / oil temperature gauge
Beep on locking
Rear lights as DRL's when front DRL's are lit

Carista 3.0 on the way apparently (altho' been out in beta for a little while)
New features include HHA 'service' & launch control counter for B8 A4's
Has a new 'tools' interface, but they're not saying what that is at the mo lol

Presumably us that already paid for the present version will have to pay again for this!
I'm testing the beta version at the moment and they have emailed me saying the new version will be released soon and people who have previously paid for the pro package will get the updated version free

I wonder if the new version will include changing the stop/start default setting to "off".

It sure does
I used it on the old mans new golf yesterday and the option was there to turn of start stop

As much as I would love to think that is possible, I very much doubt that will be possible, as not even vag come can disable the B8 start stop.
I would love to be proven wrong though lol

I think that we are entitled to make our own choice, but any car that came with STOP/START will have had that function taken into consideration when being assessed for emissions, now if you actively disable the STOP function then the emissions will increase and so probably should your road tax band. Also getting caught in a spot check in inner city driving should remove a load of dosh from you. Remember STOP/START was not introduced to annoy drivers and increase the cost of some fitted parts, it is just that it might have that effect - as I said each to their own choice but with that choice should come some financial cost for the extra pollution being caused.

You can turn off the start stop any time you want

Just leave the rear heated window on and it will never activate

Of course you can, there is even a switch provided to disable it if the driving situation/conditions make more sense to run with it disabled, but there is a huge difference between that "provision" and deliberately defaulting it to off.

I have one car with STOP/START and one car without STOP/START, I rarely find the need to switch it off - most frequent time I do that is when I stop to open the garage door - the car without STOP/START, if it had been equipped with it, would cost me about half the amount I spend in road tax.

Do I like STOP/START - the answer must be no, but I do understand why it has been deemed necessary to fit new cars with it, so I like other just need to live with it - or run older cars!

@Bristle Hound, Col, when you say you haven't had a play yet, does that mean you have updated your existing paid-for app to the new version?

If so, what was the procedure?
@jdp1962 - My Carista app auto updated on my iPad & iPhone with no probs
I haven't actually had time to connect it to the car yet

Well, I think that I've updated my version of Carista to the latest version now, in answer to my previous question, I guess that you need to have a facebook or twitter account to be notified about updates, although I'm sure that I've contacted them by email in the past - though did not get any replies!

Edit:- still no customisation listed for latest version of VW Polo though, maybe in the future! (nothing that some time spent on VCDS will not sort out)

OK, thanks, Col. I was thinking it was a new purchase. I've just checked phone and iPad, and both are updated to V3.0. Will hook up later, see if there's any new functionality that I don't have to pay for.

Anyone has working elm for android? Any link maybe guys?

Thanks

Updated the app and its asking to pay again, and there's nothing extra in it except cosmetic changes. DONT UPDATE.

Have you gone to the menu and clicked "restore purchases"?

If you iPhone sometimes this is required as the AppStore remembers that you have paid already. I take updates and have the new look app and haven't been asked to pay again. Carista have already published the fact that those who paid in full before there pricing changes will keep the app without further cost, might be worth contacting them for clarification also.

Update then pay it then tells you that previous owners of pro will not be charged

Cheers shocker

Yup, that is what I blundered upon after not getting exact answers here, so no more money asked for. Strangely after I next needed to check iPhone for updates, Carista V3 probably had found its own way in to my iPhone - I thought that it would have requested if that is what I wanted to do, only thing I did not do due to lack of knowledge of every aspect of Carista was check what the current version of the app in my iPhone before "restore purchases" was clicked!

I went for it and bought a £7.99 Wifi one off ebay. Obviously now its £30 a year or £7.99 for a weeks pro access.

Worked perfectly first time, activated Needle sweep, lap timer/oil temp and turned off fog lights for coming home lights. So £16 all in, I didn't fancy paying to probably never use it again. Had a couple of faults which cleared as well so I'm pretty happy.

Hi I have a dongle arriving tomorrow to help with some tweaks. I have two questions:

How do I unlock my DVD drive (I have the 3G basic m) so I ca remove the DVD
Does anyone know how to open the 'hidden green menu' using carista?

As you might of guessed, I'm looking to update firmware and maps

Got a dongle yesterday, i am only wanting this so i can activate footwell lights while driving! I paid for a weeks pro access, enabled it and it didnt work! Any advice?

Think you then have to find the menu in the MMI to activate it fully.
