I've had my S3 for a month and a half and I've crashed t today on the way to Wembley.. Apsolotely gutted. Went into the back of somebody on the m1 at around 30mph, some scary looking damage.

Anybody think it will be a write off? I'm scared it will be looking at the bonnet

Currently sat on the m1 waiting to be towed :(

Sorry to hear of your bump - everyone being safe is what matters.

I am not an expert but it looks fixable to me. Was the car you hit stationery?

I think a car is written off by insurance companies if the cost to fix it is more than something like 60% of its value.

Yeah it was, going very slowly if now.

Strange thing is three people went into the back of each other about 10 mins after us in the same place :/

Sad to hear and see about your accident mate - looking at the damage I highly doubt it'll be a write off.

I had an accident about a year ago that wasn't my fault on the A1 going about 50 which resulted in more damage than your S3 (I was rear ended and shunted into the car in front so front and rear damage) and mine was repaired (at a VW bodyshop so higher costs). As I've been told by bodyshops, insurance companies tend to write vehicles off when the cost of repair is approx. 50% of the market value of the car.

Sorry to see this mate but glad you're ok.

Can't see it being a write off , bumper, bonnet and maybe bumper armature (crash bar) and a few miscellaneous items maybe 3k max.

are the A pillars ok ? looks a lot of movement in the wings towards the door.

I damaged the sill against a bollard. Needed new sill, half rear panel and new door (though damage didn't look that extensive) Just picked it up yesterday - superb job, but cost £3K. So based on that i reckon this damage will be more than that. But not a write-off.
Make sure you go to a top class Audi repairer. I used Audi Ensurance (free registration) and they chose a good Audi recommended body shop. My insurance company wanted to send to a nationwide chain. They are "Audi approved" but then I guess most are. But the place I took mine was full of big Audis, Jags, Range Rovers and loads of Porches. So that gave me confidence.
Insurance company were a bit off, but did agree.
:yahoo:

Erm they look fine, the door is catching on the wing though on the drivers side

All of us seem fine thank you

You'll definitely need a new wing, and possibly even a door if it's been damaged at all.
My door had really minimal damage, but they replaced it. Maybe the difference between a good and an average bodyshop?

Sorry to hear about this ...hope everything goes seamlessly. Looks like a new LED light is required, as the lens is broken . Also the active bonnet mechanism has been activated as well.

Yeah let light, wing bumper bonnet grills at a minimum, what is the active bonnets mechanism?

The bonnet lifts up in a frontal accident. This is to protect pedestrians if you decided to run them over...:scared2:
The hinges have a mechanism that lifts as well as the latches at the front of the bonnet ....

Unless the central body cell is buckled (it almost certainly isn't, from the pics), considering how new the car is, there's no way it'll be a write-off, you'd be looking at about £20k of damage to write off. I'd say you've got a max of £4k damage there.

I had my 2 week old Golf MK5 GT Sport TDI170 (with 412 miles on the clock) clipped hard by a bus back in 2007. The car was about 12 foot from where i'd parked it to collect a take-away, and the bus driver didn't stop - a passer-by took the bus' details. The point of impact was on the rear driver's side wheel, and the car was pushed into the car in front. Damage was front bumper, rear bumper, 2 new wheels, 2 new tyres, a new rear quarter panel, new front grille, new bonnet, new radiator, 1 new wing. It was a £20k car with £8k damage, still nowhere near being a write off The repair was *****, lots of remedial works - i hated that car until I got shot of it, and the repairer was an approved VW/Audi repairer.

Approved repairer is not a guarantee of a job well done. Go to a place with a good reputation, you may have to pay a bigger excess to take the car to a place that isn't approved by your insurer as it is presumably your fault in blame terms.

Ah, thats good to know about the bonnet, looks ugly and expensive to repair to say the least! Not quite sure how it saves the passengers though :O

I'm with Direct Line, so UK Assistance are going to do it by the sounds of it in Barnsley.. Sadly enough I've had to use them before last August for a non fault claim, can't say the job was bad at all. I might just stop driving in August from now on..

In the end I ended up driving it home as the temperature warning didn't come back in, according to VCDS it sounds like the fan is jammed. The recovery guy only worked till 7 so couldn't take me home anyway, either gave me the option of getting me as far up and leaving me or taking me 40 miles south to Slough and then taking me to a train station! Can't say I was impressed with Green Flag/whoever Green Flag contacted.

I'm just glad I didn't hurt anybody could of been a lot worse considering where it happens, thanks for the support :)

Did 50-60 all the way home and had a look at my MPG figures, average of 40.2, quite confident I'll never see that again too lol

Its for the pedestrians. Cushions the blow if they land on the bonnet.

Hope it gets repaired soon. What colours is yours?

You said you only just got the car. From what you say about Green Flag, assume it was a used car. With a new car you get Audi recovery (which is AA)
green flag, I think, is just an association of private operators?

Glad everyone's ok hope you got home by now where have they taken the car?

is active bonnet standard on S3's?

They have a 7 day repair guarantee so hopefully within that time. Its brilliant black.

It was an approved used Audi, it's around as year and a half old, I've got the breakdown card with the AA, but didn't think that covered crashes. I think your right as they just got some random company to phone me.

I've got the car at home with me, just a case of waiting for them to contact me

Is that 7 days until they start repairing, or 7 days to actually do the repait? I wouldn't bet on either.
Maybe if it goes over 7 days you get a loan car?

I think the bonnet is literally just a 'push it back hard until it clicks' job isn't it? Or are there replacement bits required? It's standard on all the A3/S3 range.

Good question.....My guess it,s exactly that and possibly a re-set on vcds?

It was 7 days from when they get the car, last time they picked it up the day after and had it repaired in 12 days, so gave me £50 compensation, that was only minor damage (Just a sprayed wing/door) though so not expecting this to be done in 7 days. I get a courtesy car anyway :)

I think you might be right on the bonnet being pushed back down. We pushed hard on the passenger side as to try get the bonnet open and it has stayed down, I have three fault codes relating to each side and middle of the ignitors for it so maybe just a reset.

I think the bonnet raising device is controlled like the air bags. Only one use.
