now chaps how we all doing, well today i made the decision to sort out the scratched interior trim, thought i'd try some 4d wrap on it and see what i think, also did my grill surround as i'm sick off it chipping all the time, not sure about the surround might have to wrap it gloss black instead ???

your thoughts would be a help gents so dont be shy...

looks very nice to me aswell tony. was it easy to work with or did you have probs fitting.

all done, Rob it was really easy to be honest, i am quite handy at wrapping though but it was'nt a major hassle maybe took 3 hours in total but i made sure the pattern matched all the way around the doors and dash and that i had no visible folds in the vinyl.

That does look smart chap! Especially on the interior trim. I've been sceptical about wrapping mine because of how textured the trims are.

Love the trim!

I replaced the rear shocks on mine. Noticed when I changed the springs that they weren't rebounding at all.

It's raised the back slightly but I'm still happy with it.

I think the shocks should only rebound if they are gas filled if they are oil filled I don't think they are meant to self extend.

yep i thought about that before i started, and the answer to that is dont heat the vinyl on the face of the panel only the edges, it keeps the vinyl thick so the criss cross pattern is hidden under it better, or sand it off the trim ??? i went for the first option.

Well an eventful morning really.

Fitted a 2015 RNS-E Mk2 out of an A3 8P 193G Variant into the Avant....took around an hour to strip both the A4 and A3 fronts down and swap over all the internals so that I had the MEDIA button in the now A4 Mk2 and code it so it works properly.

mission completed then carl, any other issues to make a note of, looks very smart aswell.

The only issues were that I had to plug my original unit back in to see what the coding was as the unit coding is very different on the A3 and I had to change the workshop number or something similar to 06335 as it was all 0's.

I'll get a screen grab when I plug VCDS in next.

I have to say it's a much better unit.

Had the alignment done today after fitting new springs last week. Very happy with the results. If your near Southampton look up Nick at the Wheel Alingment Centre.

After a trip down several narrow country lanes, I was left with some scratching to the bodywork, including some over the bonnet (I couldn't turn around so had to drive through it). When I got home, in my stressy haste (only had the front end painted 18 months ago), I picked up the wrong product to cut the bonnet with... I used G3 scratch remover, which I should have used with my waffle pad, but I used with a microfibre. Result:

Lots of scratching in the clear coat. Idiot. I didn't even think. The whole bonnet looks like it's been attacked with a scouring pad. You can't see a great deal, and it's far worse than the pictures show... I contacted G3 and they got a technician to call me back. They were really really helpful, even as much as offering to mop the bonnet to help me out, but thats a 240 mile round trip which I cannot justify at the moment. They've given me a plan of action, told me what to use next so by the end of the week I should be able to correct it. If not, it'll be a wet sand and polish at a body shop!

I'm no stranger to detailing, been doing it for mine and many others cars for 16 odd years-always been a hobby. Just in a rush to sort it before I had to feed and bath the little one, I grabbed the wrong bottle and didn't even give it a second thought.

Idiot. Watch this space!

you see, with the help of others on this forum things get sorted, not allways straight away but they do , that's why this is such a great site and it offers so much for the audi owner/enthusiast.

good work chap.

Your right mate it's the last place I would have looked! A garage would have probably made me fit new injectors and a dmf and clutch if I was a let someone else do it kind of guy! I'm very grateful

Got my Air compressor delivered from Germany so headed up to Awesome GTI to have it fitted.

Had an issue regarding the new one having a damaged lead

The lads rang me and gave me options, being that I needed it going on for the Cornwall trip on Friday I went ahead and the technician sorted it with some cable ties and other bits then back in and working.

Must say the technician was excellent and again the staff superb keeping me updated.

Those that have wrapped the interior trims; did you wrap in situ for any of the parts or is there a guide to removing them?

Guess what I have planned for my car haha

I personally removed all mine as its alot easier, only took about half hour.
There is a guide somewhere but its not actually that difficult. The door trims pop out most of the way and then you just turn them towards the hinge i think, basicly theyve got a liitle hook on one end of them.
The dash trims have a screw either end end going horizontally into the dash, the trim above the cd player also pulls off revealing a couple more screws, then the trim under the steering wheel comes of revealing the rest of the screws, sounds complicated but its not.
Gear stick surround just pulls off and the ashtray cover comes off the ashtray but the ashtray stays in situ, thats the most fidly one as it just tears off.

I could get all emotional and say I love you guys....

... But I wont
Thank you gents :)

Not technically today, but I was shattered after spending nearly 7 hours on just the exterior yesterday. A few posts prior I commented on how I had scratched the bonnet pretty badly. Well, yesterday I set out to correct my ****-up!

All products were off the shelf G3 (as in available at Halfords G3). I started off with a shampoo (Autoglym), dried, then worked on each panel, one by one with G3 Paint Renovator. Then, I did exactly the same with G3 Paint Restorer. Then, I did the same again with a pot of G3 Super Gloss Wax (I forget the exact name), all 3 stages using a waffle pad and a new microfibre to buff off. I've always kept the car clean, but this procedure added a real depth to the paint work I've not really seen before: so much so, my other half even commented on how good it looked. I'd call that a success.

There is some minor swirling as to be expected with a job by hand, but it is 9 years old, and to be honest, it looks pretty good if I do say so myself! Anyway, the pictures:

The first product is a little powdery, and it doesn't like plastic (water spray and microfibre on the bits I managed to rub onto), but overall, the products, if used correctly, are really good. I'd recommend them, just allow a fair bit of time if doing it by hand!

Just had the wheels refurbished so I thought I'd give it a wash also.
Also added 15mm spacers rear and 10mm front plus new extended bolts.

Yup its a special edition although a sad one as its got the wrong block/ head in it (stupidly overlooked this issue when I bought it) it has a AXX in it.
Its a lovely car with 80k and a full service history so I've decided to spend a bit on it and keep it, I'd still like to get a BUL lump back in it at some time, I'd like to get it on a rolling road to see what its putting out as its possible that all of the management bits etc are BUL as its still has markings.
Next job is the rear bumper which has some minor dings from before I owned it.
:)
