Facelift THE NEW AUDI A3 (2016 FACELIFT) – STILL AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Exzactly! I add the options and choose the colour I want, not the options that the person that buys it in 3 years time wants!

Gordo...some common sense should be applied here in the options boxes £900 bangers for the same size of alloys...but with a different style...wtf.....trust me ye'll turn ****** hulk green when you trade it in to Audi....when they say its only worth....but of course you already know that...???

Heres on for you peeps who have already taken delivery of the FL A3. On the configurator it says in the LED Lighting package "Courtesy lighting on the exterior door handles for easy entry and exit in the dark". Am i right in saying that there is lighting on the exterior of the car on the door handles, not just the interior?

If common sense was applied, we'd be driving 1.0 VW Polo's. :D Swings and roundabouts really... don't add any options and it's a basic bog-standard car. Add them and lose the money they cost. The discounts on CarWow pretty much cancel out the cost of fair few optional extras, so I guess you pay your money and take your chances! :)

I'm upgrading for twice as many seats, more comfort, twice the driven wheels and 150 extra brake...
Then you're not upgrading from an S3, which is what/the only thing I was implying.

The facelift also gives you the options of LED headlights, including matrix LED's, virtual cockpit, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and embedded sim for unlimited data.

Whether people like the looks/appearance is really down to personal preference. :)
More money to waste which you won't get back.

You can get the LED headlights on the previous 8V S3. Virtual cockpit is a gimmick, and overrated IMO. I tested it in a TTS they loaned me for the day and I found myself getting distracted and irritated by it. As for options like CarPlay, really? Really?? Have you not seen how much of a failed implementation that is on the Golf?

I won't even touch the Wifi and Embedded SIM's comment, that's too easy to destroy.

There's a bit more to it than 10 BHP mate :)

Not really, no. None of the important technical aspects have changed, other than the updated 7-speed S-Tronic, which I certainly wouldn't recommend people to waste/lose money upgrading to, given that the majority of S3 8V owners here are PCP'd up to the hills.

See aforementioned post about the spec options.

LEDs standard on slide is a boon, and the standard tech is greatly improved. VC is gimmick and overrated in your opinion, but others will love it. I didn't spec it as I wanted to keep payments down, but I still think it's superb and didn't distract me in the tt I spent a weekend driving. CarPlay is brilliant and will only get better with updates. I have it in our Leon and miss it when driving our current a3 - mainly for the sms and Apple Music integration.

We went for the fl because we got more standard kit and our payments were cheaper.

Whether bought on a PCP or outright is irrelevant. The car will still depreciate at the same rate and be worth the same value after 3 years. In one sense a PCP could be an advantage, if the value after 3 years is much less than the GFV then you hand the car back and walk away. If you've bought the car outright initially, then you've lost real hard cash.

Optional extras basically give the customer a choice. You want it, pay for it, you don't want it, don't pay. There's no right or wrong, its all personal preference. Same applies to the facelift... if you think the pre-facelift is better, stick with it. :)

I must admit, if I were already an S3 owner I probably wouldn't be jumping into a facelift unless my existing car was at least 2 years old, even then, I would be thinking twice.

I'm not sure what's the argument here... There's more to it than 10BHP... You listed it yourself... 7-speed S Tronic. So it's a fact there's more to it than *just* 10 BHP :) and just from a meachnical stand point.
Now if you already own a S3 8V is it worth upgrading? There's no definitive answer to that mate. The reasonable answer would be there's probably not enough in the facelift to make it a compelling upgrade especially if one stands to lose a bunch of money in the process. But say money is not an issue and you like the latest greatest then by all means why not upgrade? (unless you want Sepang Blue that is... Another can of worms!)
VC is a marmite option possibly but most likely this is where the future is headed. You like it you spec it you don't well nobody forces you!
In your case (I assume you have a S3) the FL S3 doesn't seem to offer enough for you to upgrade and therefore you should enjoy your S3 :)
For the rest of us who'll get the new FL S3 we sure will enjoy the extra power, 7-speed S Tronic, Carplay, Android Auto, LEDs, etc... :)

I always do exactly the same. My dealer tells my car is always very easy to sell because it has a good selection of options and not an in or out of fashion colour. Quite often he has sold it before he actually gets it. Because of than he can always offer a better the average trade-in price as well as a good discount on the new one.

********....adding options keeps you tied into the PCP far longer...its the Audi way

Spoken like a true Moderator....always on the fence...lol.....To be perfectly honest with you mate l would never buy another S3...Its not fast enough for me now, l need a better fix,ie speed wise and noise wise...unless you drive the S3...like you stole it..its quite a mundane affair...the steering....is truly anesthetized.... same can be said with its body roll, but that's just my opinion over the last 17 months....it all depends on what you have owned previously...am not knocking the face lift at all.....worse thing l done was drive a RS3 for a hour...on a test drive this time last year...well October...lol,l am going into Glasgow Audi on Sunday to see my boy....yeah just to see him..and have a wee scout about the showroom/forecourt and have a look at some face lift cars....

I totally get you. I've watched my fair share of RS3 videos and if they give it the right FL treatment it'll be very good indeed.
I couldn't justify the RS3 now and I refuse to pay over the odds for a used RS car but if I was looking to buy next year rather than now I know the man maths would be at play to justify a FL RS3 with exclusive paint! lol
In a way for my bank account it's good the choice is not on the table :)
I'll enjoy the S3 for what it is. A damn nice car with some imperfections :)

i've got the fl saloon S Line with the aluminium light design inlays and i saw the bit about the courtesy lighting but not seen anything ti justify my car has this. not been out in it at night yet but when putting it in the garage haven't noticed anything.

I've recieved screenshots from the dealer. They show my S3 order with matrix lights and virtual cockpit with a build week of wk36. (5th Sept)View attachment 98835
I will be really peeved off if this is correct!! My dealer said there was a problem with matrix lights and no cars were going out with them so i changed my order! I will be really happy for u if u get them but at the same time i wont be happy after what i have been told

Well, as far as we can tell, it's correct. The dealer system says it, the factory system says it, the online tracker says it.

Take that screenshot to your dealer, and ask him to explain him/herself. It's certainly not to late to change, even if your car is now committed, they can move you onto a different order with little delay.

I have added a few other options onto my car now that takes the price up to my budget so would need to choose between options and i cant do that lol i will be having words though. I really should have looked into it further because i actually got a build week of 5th September before i was told about the "problem" and changed the order. Now i have 29th august. Keep us all updated though on the outcome.i will be asking for some sort of freebie lol

This is showing on youraudi for my S3..

  • Electric front seat adjustment driver´s seat with memory function
I thought electric seats were an optional extra, well according to the configurator.

Yeah it said that on a lot of people but you wont get them if you didn't spec them.

That is the joy of cars, no matter which car you buy you will always lose money....My view is set a figure of how much you are willing to lose each month and get the best car/spec for that money. That is why PCP is a good way for a lot of people who wish to change their car every few years, as they have no nasty surprises at the end...no equity = give the keys back, equity = a bonus.

Don't bank on equity at the end!

The way the used car market is going,it will be all neg equity...all because of the big discounts on new cars

Ahh thats a little disappointing  Definitely sounds to me that there should be lights on the exterior door handles, ****** false advertising!

Yeah, this pi**ed me off a bit. I vowed to spec it after not doing so with our first 8V. Then this time I was told it wasn't an option:-/

Cosmos looks too dark for me. Vowed I'd never go black again and this looks just as hard work to keep swirl and Mark free.

Welcome along @Nutone

Welcome! Have to agree, it's a pretty dark blue... I'm normally a fan of blue, but just too dark for me.

For those interested in the S3, found these on instagram. Looks to be somewhere in the UK too!

Its a shame they got rid of the Scuba Blue, it would have been my first choice. Will likely go for Glacier White now in the Saloon. Saw one whilst driving and it looked impressive.

Dealership told me there are many orders going through now so there is a likely a 6 month waiting list!! Anyone else getting this sort of lead time??

A couple of weeks ago, week 41 build date was mentioned to me, which would mean around November delivery. That was for an A3. Haven't got any details on the S3 yet.

I'm looking to purchase an A3 Saloon so don't know if that makes a difference?

Will check with another dealership tomorrow.

... and it if the interior LED lighting package includes the thin LED band underneath the door trims that would be the icing on the cake :fearscream:

Just noticed that the wording has changed in the online brochure... they now refer to the inlays as being illuminated... They have obviously been following this thread and realised their initial wording was a bit confusing. :D
