so my car gave me a low oil pressure warning today at low speeds low revs so switched it off immediately and coasted to a halt. Currently at an Audi specialist awaiting diagnosis. Hopfully got away with it as turned it off straight away there were no noises or shuddering or anything so hopfully just need too change the shaft. Hate these cars at times. Money pit too say the least!!

Good luck hope you managed to limit your bill keep us posted on it

Cheers. Hopfully just the pin needs doing. I dunno

Engine code ?

The fix is modified remanufactured balancer shaft and longer harder 100mm hex key .

Why people don't do the preventative fix of a well documented problem at their convenience is beyond me .

Brd code and yes I agree but people have a lot goin in in there lives and I've had too pay out a lot on other things on the car recently. But it was switched off straight away so fingers crossed. It's in a reputable specialist now anyway.

Good luck mate i had mine done as preventative fix before i did anything on the car,yes these are money pits i had a new turbo only weeks before
i did the hex mod and just before that i had my roof motor sorted,so fingers crossed you caught it in time,i was told that sometimes the oil light doesn`t show before a fail.

Cheers m8. The car was still running smooth when I switched it off so . In one year I've had a fuel cooler pipe fail. Air con pressure sensor. Altornator failed 2 months ago now this. .

This unfortunately happened to my friends TFSI GTI, he done the silly thing and kept driving it though and now it needs a new engine so hopefully you got away with it dude.

I for one didn't know there was any preventative maintenance to be done for this.

i have just had mine done a few months ago as a preventative measure. i am a first time Audi owner and never new of this until i joined the Forum. one of the best things i have ever done was to join up. so many bits of info i have learnt and feel much more confident know, but i see for others they just sadly dont know. all we can do a Audi owners is just keep on shouting out the problem areas in the hope like myself others take warning.

keep us posted fella. will be praying for a good outcome.

So Audi doctor in Stockport have had the sump off today. No obvious damage to the turbo or engine so having the upgraded balancer shaft fitted and a new oil pump at the same time to the tune of £700!!!! Ouch. But could have a lot worse I suppose so my advice to anyone is too just switch off the car at the 1st hint of low oil pressure! Let's hope this is the end of it. Gna be selling the car after this so if anyone is interested in it. Lol.

Why are you having a new oil pump fitted if there is nothing wrong

The oil pump it's £150 so they say while your in you may as well do it as the labour is pretty much the same to do the balancer shaft. Am I right in saying this does anybody know??!

For the price you have been quoted its sounds very cheap as the balance shaft mod fitted is £500/600 are you sure they are fitting
a new pump aswell

That's what's been quoted. Suppose that would be right if the oil pump is £150.

if thats whats been quoted you are doing well for £700 hope your sale goes good what you getting next then

I will check in the morning what's going too be done. He's a good mechanic tho it's just a small garage but he's done hundreds of these apparently. Hopfully going too lease somthing brand new with a big fat warranty. Just want stress free motoring and somthing Cheeper too run.

It's not the idea to just forget this issue until the red light shows up and simply switch off.

As the rounded key and keyway will be partially slipping for some time causing low oil pressure this is why quite often a turbo goes before the eventual failed pump drive.

Preventative of a proven engineering planned obsolescence is paramount .

Mine flashed up after a long trip just after I got it.
I had it serviced at an Audi place and it seemed ok until a while later it did it again so I had a choice between finding a new engine or trying the revised oil pick up.
I did the latter about 10 months ago and its been fine, the garage did say that the old pick up was partially blocked.

When I bought the car a year ago I posted my engine issues on here and a year later its still running great although I have got some spare funds just incase as I had decided to drive it until plays up (which it hasn't), I would still like to get a good recon'd BUL lump back in it though at some point.
:)

Nice 1 any interest on gumtree
No unfortunately. I no gumtree isn't the best for selling this kind of car so going to put in on auto trader when I get it back I think. Maybe drop the price a bit.

Got the car back today running fine. Saw the old drive pin was was very worn out so had obviously slipped. Has had the upgraded pin put in which is stronger. Old oil pump was Farley worn too. Hopfully that's it now.

So its had the new balance shaft and longer hex pin and a new oil pump and oil and filter so what was the grand total

Mines not a chain drive btw or would have been a lot more expensive to modify the chain drive too what my car has. Lol. I'm still learning! Maybe keep it and put a parts n labour cover in it for the time being or get rid n ditch the finance for a bit while I save for a house.

Im glad im not starting to save for a house now, only got 14month left on mine ive been looking at another merc e350 cab so maybe
my cab will be on its travels soon

Yea I'd love a cab as a 2nd car nice 4 seater for the kids too.

Has the car back a day now. Everything seems ok on the surface. Only thing I have noticed us s slight oily burning smell not from the engine bay but from the exhaust! Any advice.
