Decided I'm going to keep my S3 for another 12 months, but would like to get a little more sportier tone from the exhaust, not loud or boomy, just sportier.

Milltek seems to come in for a lot of bashing, but surely some folk must have them fitted on an S3 without issue.

Can you add comments (S3 owners only please to ensure a completely unbiased opinion) around your experiences if you do have one fitted.

I was thinking of going for the resonated cat back option which seems to retail circa £450

My car came with it on, i wouldn't have wanted to part with the best part of £500 for it to be honest. It's been on the car for well over a year now and is just the right noise level for me, it doesn't resonate through the cabin but when it's warm you know it's there as you depress the loud pedal :racer:

Think when new, they are just not really loud enough, and don't give any marked BHP.

I managed to haggle FIFTY QUID off the price of mine, just by playing 2 companies against one another in a bidding war

Awesome GTi came off with the best price, although in future I'll get my newly aquired independant to do the fitting for me. He's a lot cheaper!

Personally I think the Supersprint looks and fits better. The tailpipes fill out the bumper cut-out more.

It couldn't fit any worse!
I hated mine...

Sounded Ok...gave no power gains despite having their expensive cats fitted too...but never sat level - either the box was squint, or the tailpipes were.
It also banged on the underside of the car when hot. A lot. Drove me mad.

It was on and off several times and Milltek weren't interested...they suggested it was 'fitted wrong'. I think not.
Audi had it off/on...so dos Star Performance. It was an ill-fitting peice of junk.
I tried getting them to swap it several times, called, talked to them at shows...not interested.

I'll never buy any of their ***** again...

At least the Supersprint fits properly.

Had mine fitted by AmD and couldnt be happier with it, i think it depends where you have it fitted as to whether it sits nicely or not!!

When its hot it gives some lovely pops and bangs!!

The results would seem to suggest you were very unforunate and had a really bad experience Ess Three.
I had searched quite a bit on the subject prior to posting and had read quite a few posts ref. ill fitting, thus I was worried I may be buying something duff, although at the moment, it seems 8:1 people are satisified.........

I'm now really confused !

Where can I source the Supersprint one from, I'd just like to get a price comparison to understand the differences.

What are they like sound wise compared to the Milltek ?

Cheers

Really?
Maybe you can explain how, if the tailpipes don't sit in the same plane as the back box, fitting in a different place can have both sitting level?
You can't.
One or the other does...never both.
It was fitted/re-fitted at Audi and Star...as well as numerous times by me...and it was physically impossible to have it sitting straight.
I know i wasn't alone either...

Don't get me wrong...the tailpipes sat straight...but the box was squint under the car.
Is yours the same?
To me, that's inexcusable...if VAG can get it straight, why can't Milltek?

To be fair, mine was an early system...so they may have changed it later on...but they sure as hell weren't interested in fixing it. Which means I'll never deal with them again as it's fit was *****.
I gave them 3 years worth of opportunity...and they weren't interested.

Maybe you are right...
But 1 in 8 is 1 too many in my book. you pay good money for it and expect it to fit.

The cats were ***** too...their fit to the downpipes was awful. The VAG stuff isn't so why should Milltek's be?

Their Mk3 GTI system fitted perfectly though...
But the VR6 Corrado Cat is way off...

All in all...4 Milltek products bought by me, 3 are not a great fit.
There won't be a 5th.

got a full rs4 zorst on an s4, apart from it being a little low (rs4's have a lower bumper) awesome bit of kit. if u have a modded engine it allows it to breathe, more breath-more umph

Im pretty sure that my rear box is sitting straight and so are the tailpipes, wouldnt bet my life on it though.

Maybe they did change them slightly to when you had one then, but i agree not to carry on using a product that you are not happy with, i however have had no problems with mine so i would use them again!!

Pretty damn sure its not worth all that dosh, i do like the slightly larger tailpipes though!!

I've got a supersprint exhaust on my a4 and i love it. Fitted perfectly, fills the gap how it should be and sounds amazing, really varied tones through the rev range. Time for a supersprint cat by pass now. Would recommend them all day long. Got mine from where i work but there also available from rimstyle and venom motorsport and plenty of other places.

Got a Milltek cat back on mine with the resonator centre box. They didn't make the straight through pipe when I bought mine. Would have had a non-resonator section out of choice for a bit more noise. Been on the car for 2.5 years and no problems.

Had a supersprint on my Ibiza for about 7 years now. Contrary to what people have been saying here about supersprint, it was an appalling fit. Took the garage 3 attempts to fit it, and the centre section had to be sent back to the distributors twice before they sent one that matched the profile of the exhaust tunnel. It is fitted (and not clonking) thanks to a collection of zip ties and fixings wrapped around the rubbers. Having said all that, once it was fitted, not had any problems at all.

A video would be good.
I dont want nothing too "boomy", had enough of that on my Impreza. Just want something to sharpen up the acceleration noise, raspy I guess.
It would also need to mantain the original look, I dont want any missle launchers !
Can you pm a rough price for Cat back, dont want the hassle of no cats at MOT time.

Cheers

Right first time with a video so fingers crossed. Supersprint cat back on a4 1.8 non turbo (hopefully)

was that video for picture or noise , if its for noise i cant hear anything , get a bit closer and give it a blast on the loud pedal:blow:  :icon_thumright:

It has sound aswell but i think i have to change the format from 3pg to wmv for it to work because its from a mobile. Will do that when i've got some time.

Out of the three Milltek's Ive got - The S3 is the best fit & noise (ie no booming under heavy acceleration). The S3's was fitted back in 2004

Fitted by AmD. Had a lot of trouble with the TT's milltek and eventually went to Milltek in Derby, found out there are different versions (tweaks) of the same exhaust for the same model of car! For the TT it was the placement of the hangers for the backbox (ended up being rewelded to a different position). Which could explain why some ppl have the devils own job fitting etc whilst others are pleased due to different manufactured versions but same part #.
