My car was originally speced with xenon headlights but now I need to replace them and over here in egypt both xenon and led headlights are very closely priced. The question here is, can anyone please help me code them. I've read that it's been done by a few before but can't seem too find any tutorial guiding on how to code them. Appreciate the help

I don't believe anyone successfully retrofitted this component.

and in the long run the Bi-Xenons are actually rated better than the LEDs, and will sadly be that way until Matrix LEDs are offered on the facelift to certain regions.

My current S3 has LED's. They're rubbish. Stick with Xenons and you'll see far better performance.

Didn't know that @DJAlix , if this is the case and its only a plug in and coding job..

Anyone out there with LED lights who are willing to swap for my pair of xenons headlights (they are adaptive aswell) + money your way let me know :)

Am not so sure that it's a simple unplug and plugin job to be honest, am researching this at the moment. OP only asked for coding :)

Will update when I know more...

I doubt the matrix lights will be any better/brighter, they'll just have the voodoo magic stuff to stop them dazzling other road users. You need to jump up a few classes to an A6 or 5 series BMW to get decent LED headlights...

The new LED's have a six or seven year advantage in terms of development and technology over the first generation lamps on the pre-facelift cars. At the pace that LED has developed in the last few years this is like the difference between 6" sealed beams and decent halogens. The new LED headlights should, by rights, be in a different league compared to these ones.

More developed doesn't necessarily mean brighter, though...

In my experience (in a Leon, it has to be said) the LED headlights need more lumens, not more technology. They're just not bright enough to drive quickly and safely at night on unlit roads.

My wife has just taken delivery of a new car with LED's her previous version of the same car had xenons, The xenons were much brighter than the LED's with more depth to the light.

I think perhaps the change is a huge cost reduction as the LED system for the manufacturer is considerably less cost to fit.

No, but it should mean better.

Well in the light of the IIHS failling a lot of cars here in North America with LED headlights with poor light output.

What are the chances of this information not getting across to the Audi designers who could easily tweak the lumens in the lead headlights to give them a better rating, thus better review, and bigger sale?

I mean releasing the same garbage LED headlight on a newer facelift vehicle in light of the previous car getting lambasted on poor headlight performance would be pretty stupid no.

I have LEDs on my S3, the xenons on my 12 year old B6 are still infinitely better than the LEDs on the S3.
Very disappointed, waste of £800. I didn't test them before buying but the salesman ( an enthusiastic young chap ! ) did say they were much better on 'his' ( dealership car) A3 Sline than xenons !!!

The LEDs have a nice colour temperature, but the light output is weak providing **** poor performance.

It's been done!

Somewhere in there. Not very detailed but retro fitted.

That person went from sanctioned North American LED headlights to unsanctioned European LED headlights e.g. e-codes. That's not a retrofit or at least what we are talking about here, i.e. Xenon to LED.

Seems like there's a big dislike for the orange side markers !

A contact of mine has complete an LED retrofit to his car. Once wiring was completed a new Headlight Range Control Module (55) was needed as well as coding.

Sounds like one major pain in the anus. Just fit a dimmer switch to the good headlights and get a similar result!

I like my LEDs especially with a bit of VCDS tweaking to do this when indicating :-

You can also increase main beam power output by 27% in VCDS.

Ok so updates on the retrofit. I've been driving with the headlights for about two weeks now without highbeams. The headlight range control has just arrived yesterday but most of the shops here are closed for holidays until next week. I'd do the install myself but can't seem to find where the actuall part is installed on the car to do the replacement. Any help?

Any update on this?

Rob2k68 you know how the IIHS flunked the pre-facelift Audi A3/S3 with full LEDs for having poor light output.

Do you think if they had a test a LED equipped PFL 8V with the 27% VCDS mod that it would have got an Acceptable rating like the Xenons?

I will try it on my FL do you guys have a link with instructions?

Probably not mate - I think that concentrated mainly on dipped beam ?

Change the brightness of main beam (LED headlamps only)

  1. Select STG 09 (Vehicle Power)

  2. STG Access Permission -> Function 16

  3. Enter access code 31347

  4. STG adjustment -> function 10

  5. Channel (6)-Leuchte8FL LB39-Dimmwert AB 8 – range 0-127 – default 100

  6. Channel (6)-Leuchte9FL RB2-Dimmwert AB 9 – range 0-127 – default 100

It might be that I came from halogens on my A4 2.0TDIe SE Technik, but I find the LEDs on the facelift (standard LEDs, not Matrix) are fantastic. Not wholly convinced by "All weather lights" over fogs, but that's another matter entirely.

Well there's proof that 4 years have given Audi the time to improve the LED technology.

I wish Audi's kept the old headlight design though, perhaps made it bigger, removing the side marker since the Concept A3 LEDs filled the whole headlight since it didn't have side-markers. Perhaps made the end corners of the filled LED headlight, dual color LED so it could mimic Amber/White side-markers.

Nah, the facelift lamp units look far better than the old ones. Far more aggressive and generally a better shape to add some lines to the front end.

Just testing this on an S3 at the moment and step 6 looks to be controlling the cup holder lights! Lol
