First time, popped to the local pub for lunch, got back in car to a dead battery. RAC man put his money on duff battery (it's about old enough), but after a jump everything checked out ok and sure enough it behaved for another 10 days.
Cue a trip to Thorpe Park and after an overnight stay in the hotel we got back to the car to find, yup, another flat battery. This time poor performance from the RAC meant a hefty delay considering I just wanted a jump again.

Still, had time (while SO took the kids back into the park to kill time) to generally listen to the cricket and fiddle with the car. Noticed that SO had left vanity mirror open on sun blind. Decided to leave it and lock car as normal, checked light - still on at around 25% brightness with everything locked up, opened car and door and it popped up to full brightness. Sure enough, car has been fine since, although seeing as we're on holiday with it I've been regularly (verbally) slapping the SO as she still forgets to close the mirror.

Any thoughts on a cure (other than removing the LED)? Might be related but the drivers side popped the LED (T8ups supplied) turning it brown and there's been no voltage to that light since, but that was about 2 years ago.

No other symptoms (such as door warnings on the DIS).

Don't really know where to start, would assume the sun blind mirror switch isn't powered while the ignition is on.

My missus is terrible for this as well :') never had it drain the battery before though. Always have to check after locking up the car.

Run an amp metre across the battery With engine running to see what reading the alternator is charging at,

First RAC guy (very good) did that several times to make sure the dynamic charging control was working, the alternator and the battery tested good. I don't understand why the vanity light stays on (albeit at low light), pretty sure all the interior lights power off some time after ignition off and locking the car.

That is a really bad way to write that as some, maybe numpties, that possess a multi meter, might just try that literally and stuff the meter - as a youff I did that with an AVO, and I was not very popular!

I'd hope so too, if not what is the BCM playing at!

Sorry I call them an amp metre as is does Amps and volts, that's how I'd be checking it but been old school I probably do thing the old way, eg this is how I spell youth !

Good, but try to spell meter as meter and not metre - sorted!

No it was the impression that you measure the charging current by whacking a meter across the battery that might cause a problem.

No Input to the problem I am afraid.. but what Does SO stand for? I figure it is your wife but for the life of my I cant figure out what the acronym is :rapture:

Are you sure your not getting confused with a battery tester buddy
Never heard of a running a METER across the battery to cause a problem what problem would it cause?
I suggested it to see what it's changing at should be around 14.4 with the engine running and 12v switched off

To the Op hope you get sorted

Significant Other, perhaps? "colloquially used as a gender-neutral term for a person's partner in an intimate relationship without disclosing or presuming anything about marital status, relationship status, or sexual orientation."

I'm not trying to be nasty, but check your first posting I quoted as it says "Run an amp metre across the battery With engine running to see what reading the alternator is charging at," - it is the "amp" part of the posting that concerned me, checking voltage across the battery is fine!
