I'm looking to get a remap in the near future and I was wondering what easy cheap mods to do before a remap to get that extra few HP when they map it.
I was looking at a exhaust but i dont really want to spend that much.
would a TIP or DV help at all?

What car is it for?

To quote Bill's coined phrase "It's all about the flow", and generally speaking any mods that improve flow will help... Usual places to start would be inlet and exhaust by means of induction kit (S2000 filter will do and is cheap), larger TIP and down-pipe/decat.

If it's for an A3 there's some really good information here that Jarrod wrote up for us when he was on his period:
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/thread...k03-k03s-agu-and-aum-engines-fwd-cars.191705/

Also, just make sure the car is in good health prior to mapping... Check all hoses for splits, make sure it's had a recent service (oil, filters, plugs etc) and perhaps carry out a compression test.

Badger5 TIP as a minimum... do you have any other mods? if not an exhaust won't make much difference...

The main mods to do on an S3 in order of preference are Badger5 TIP/Filter, FMIC and a 3" downpipe...

Fitting the TIP nets most gains, FMIC keeps the gains from TIP and mapping happier and doesn't drop off as quickly, 3" DP again keeps engine happy and your mapped power for longer

Exhaust will just give you a hole in your pocket and noise without any of the above fitted and is the least bang for buck mod on a standard K04 turbo

All I have so far is Forge 007p DV and a pipercross panel filter. Want to add a couple extras before remap but I don't want to go over the top with mods, I think i'll be where I want to be after those few extras plus a map

B5 TIP then.... biggest bang for buck mod out of the lot even without a map

If I was to start again from scratch using a standard S3 as a base car, this is what I would be doing to a used S3 with 100k miles on the clock. In this order, and if funding allows it, retaining the stock K04 turbo.

Oil pick up(part costs peanuts from Audi/TPS for piece of mind)
Fuel Pump(£85 ish from ebay for a new one)
80mm TIP with a Jetex cone filter (best bang for buck mod after a remap)
Decat or 3" downpipe with decat mated to standard exhaust (helps the engine breath better, but creates a cabin drone at motorway speeds.)
FMIC (K04 runs hot when mapped, so this maintains the power)
Cat back Exhaust System (again, more flow, but not cheap for the potential gains)
Custom Remap (get boost leak pressure checked prior to the remap)

You can get the remap at any point after the 80mmTIP, it comes down to how much you want to spend? This is just me personally, everyone is different.

Hope you don't mind me joining in OP?
I've not been around here long and am only just starting looking at modding....
So what are the recommendations for FMIC and can someone please explain the decat or dp with decat?
Also what are the power gains likely with the suggested mods?
Sorry for the noob questions
