Hi all,

Has anyone got the below double din from Pumpkin? If so is it any good, and have you had any issues? A lot of people have moaned about quiet back speakers.

The reason the back speakers are quiet is because there is an amp in the boot that powers the rear speakers but these android units can't power that amp properly for it to work the speakers properly, you have to buy an adaptor like this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/171354188404
The black box you see on this adaptor basically turns the rear amp on and then the speakers will work properly.

Something else to add is that the antenna on your car is also powered by an amp which the android units don't power so you have to buy another adaptor like this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/400645104017 to get the radio to work properly.

Other than these two adaptors being needed I believe they are a good unit considering the price that these and other android units are.

I'd seen a few comments like yours so thought I'd look into it before I got one, I looked all over the Internet and messaged a couple of audio companies. From what I read it said to buy one of those adaptors and then those companies that I messaged both said to use one of those adaptors. There are other adaptors you can get for cheaper but they don't do the job apparently

These Dynavin units are supposed to be good and also supposed to be plug and play so you don't need any of the adaptors for them but a good couple of hundred pound more

No app support on Dynavin and they cost a couple hundred quid more. They are nice units if you are happy with what you get in the package, but you can't pick which nav app you use for example.

I've not looked that much into them but it wouldn't be of interest to me then if you cant get apps and it's a couple of hundred pound more.

Thats is for the bose system, what if you just have the standard stereo? Would the
XTRONS 2 RCA Line-Out Hi-Lo High Level to Low Level Output Amplifier Converter Adapter work?

Also would
XTRONS® DAB Digital in Car Radio Stereo Aerial Antenna Glass Mount Interior Windscreen be compatible?

Won't allow hyperlinks to amazon?

It says for Bose but it's for non bose aswell as I don't have Bose speakers. Basically if you have got rear speakers then there is an amp at the rear of the car powering those speakers and this lead will switch the amp on as the aftermarket head unit will not do it.
I've read that other people have tried the hi/lo converter but it didn't work so I didn't get one of those to try it.

I've got a Pumpkin branded one, but the other design.

First, to make it worth while you need to install a custom rom straight away, have a look on the XDA forums.

Second, for mine I had to modify the external microphone input (de-solder the original input and connect a new 2.5mm jack input on the back) as if you ring someone they get hiss.

Third, the after sales service is a up hill battle. They are useless to say the least. Mine worked for 6 months, then the screen died. It took me 3 months to get them to send a new screen. They constantly said they'd send it then it had been lost... it went on and on.

Just a warning. I still have mine and find it great now that it works how it's supposed to!

Thanks for your advice! I think I will go ahead with this stereo once I have the cash to spare.

Finally I found someone who is trying this unit!! Did you manage to get it to work? I also couldn't get rears to work properly as the volume was really silent.

ab1702, where would this adapter fit because the unit already comes with a lead with a quadlock adapter with a canbus on it.

Do you connect via
OEM quadlock > eBay adapter > pumpkin canbus adapter

If so there is the white block of connectors missing on the eBay adapter, leaving the white block of connectors on the pumpkin canbus adapter empty?

I haven't installed this unit yet.

But the guys who have commented on this thread seem to know what they are are on about. It would be really beneficial if you could post a quick guide or give me some advice when you do get it working.

Apart from the speaker issues. How is the unit itself?

This was one of the worst units. Excluding the rear speaker issue, this unit had really bad Bluetooth calling, I was shouting whilst parked up and still was bad, bad Bluetooth music, bad static interference through speakers, bad DAB and sound quality wasn't as good as others. This was one I sent back without thinking twice about it.
