I've just watched the video from the Beijing Auto Show and it looks like the TTRS will have 395 bhp.... Is that right? Will they be upgrading the RS3 to the same power?

I know you're thinking why is he posting this here but the reason is that I like my S3 and was just about to get it Revo'd but after this TT-RS news (and if it's true) I may have to place an order for one.

Thoughts?

Here's the video for anyone interested

TTRS will be a stunning car ....... but not worth £10k over an RS3 imo.

But a fantastic car all the same

I would imagine it would have to be close to 400PS for sure, tasty motor and if that new 5 pot is as good or better than the current offering then this will be a stonking car.

What, in the same way that the RS3 is not worth the £10k over the S3? ;)
Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

No ... that is a different comparison entirely: S v RS and 4 pot v 5 pot

Pistonheads are now saying it could be £54k base price !

No, what they have done is take the euros pricing mentioned by one publication and then run it through a currency converter to pounds. The coupe would in that case be £51K and the roadster £54K. But that is pure speculation until such time as Audi UK publish their pricing. Given the trouble they have selling TT and TTs models at the moment without massive dealer contributions, I think they might be a bit more sensible this time around - or not knowing Audi. Over £50k and it has to be a Cayman.

Anyway away and enjoy your RS3 and stop worrying about being exclusive. :)

£50k for the coupe feels about right doesn't it.

3.7 seconds to 62mph is mighty quick though and hell of a performance stat !

l like the titainium finished and high gloss black rotors on the RS3...nicer the than S3 sportback..more expensive though,l am sure the Sedan RS3 will have different alloys and the face lift RS3 sportback and mate the optional light weight 20" alloys are rotors....lol

Looks very good.
I'd be inclined to consider the TTS though. When I drove it, it felt like it had just the right power for the set up. That plus the offers on a TTS make it a great buy.
I'll have a go in the TTRS though and see what it improves (noise and straight line speed).

Personally £10k over the pre-facelift RS3 is worth it in seats, seating position, interior, wheels and looks alone, add into the mix that it should (if the TTS is anything to go by) be a better driving experience, then £10k isn't much of a premium. This ignores practicality.
Would need to compare TTRS against the facelift RS3 though.

I'm not convinced the facelift RS3 will be right for you Craig as in not different enough from the current model to appeal to you.

I think you would like the TTS or TTRS though. Head says TTS but heart says TTRS lol :)
But yeah I reckon this is where you should look next fella as you are already listing a lot of positives for the TT and it is a cracking car no question. In TTS or RS form it will be a cracker :sunglasses:

395 bhp. Most car sites are quoting that.

So glad I waited and wasn't impatient to order a pre-FL RS3. I'd be absolutely gutted as I am sure some current RS3 owners will be.

Guessing the TTRS is getting it first (hence why no word yet on RS3 FL) so I'd expect to hear details on the RS3 with this engine in the next few months.

Well done for waiting!

You'd be really ****** off if you'd just taken delivery of your RS3 this month, only to find out the engine (the key reason for buying an RS3) is now obsolete.

The Number 1 reason going for this 2,5l engine in the RS3 is the aluminium construction, and weight saving.

The additional horses are nice to have, but the key advantage of the new engine in the RS3 is to reduce all that weight over the front axle. Who knows, it might even reduce the understeery nature of the RS3, it *might* even handle properly (if they have revised the suspension) :p

Of course, if all you're interested in is straight line performance, then it will have absolutely no bearing on you ;)

Audi have shown their hand first......

A45 AMG "S" is in the pipeline. 400 bhp plus to trump the revised 2.5l from Audi.

This German power war is going to get very interesting :sunglasses:

This new 2.5 engine will be a beast. Complete new engine. The engine is 30kg lighter. Less fuel consumption and.... no manifold!!! Same as our S3 engine... :hubbahubba: So Tuning up to 600hp will be easy!!!

Plus - the new 2,5l engine will also feature direct and indirect injection - at a stroke (pun intended) - eliminating all those coking up problems that have plagued the Audi FSI/TFSI engines for years.

£54k lol ......................I'll hang around for the RS3 sedan, after all the Sedan is the best set up S3 so can't see any reason why the RS won't be. At least you'd feel like your getting something approaching value for money.............:whistle2:

.......if they stick a 'smiley' grill on it though am oot !!

Even if they hadn't revised the suspension surely the 10kg saving upfront alone would make a difference.

No it's not even as simple as that with the latest models:

AMG C63 is a 4.0 litre engine
AMG E63 is a 5.5 litre engine
AMG S63 is also 5.5 litre engine

Go figure!

It's more than that. The engine itself is 26kg lighter than the old engine. Hopefully there might also be revised engine mounting position, to bring it rearwards (maybe too hopeful). The current RS3 engine is a heavy lump that overhangs the front axle, which is not a great position.

Yes, the engine weight saving alone will make a difference, but mainly to understeer and moment of inertia. A revised suspension setup would bring additional improvements to the cars handling though, which would bring it up to the level it should be at. Let's not forget that a mere Golf R with less power out-handles the current RS3 !
