Well to say I'm happy is a understatement, my apr stage 1 s3 did 11.9 quarter mile.

One of the fastest cars of the day, a 600+ Gtr was only managing 11.3!!

excuse my ignorance...what is deemed at a good 1/4 mile, time and speed?
0-60
60-120
etc etc in your opinions?

I had an evo 8 fq340 running 397hp and best I got with a manual was 12.9 @ 112 so running 11.9 with 360 odd is very impressive. Our cars get off the line so well they run some serious times for the weight and power

unless your me, running a manual and getting off the line generally sucks balls.
i've never really been one for timed runs like this, so its a new concept for me. i generally like to just have enough power to make me giggle like a school girl and not get bored of it, but its something that i really want to seriously look into.

Also, comparing 1/4, you should try and compare the same track on the same day with the same conditions (weather, temp etc).

Otherwise it's a bit of a lottery with the numbers.

It will give a good indication, mind.

For a S3 anything under 12s is very good. The VW DSG launch control is primarily responsible for this.

For giggles-

This is the class with GTR's:

That run was a really good launch, safer launch times were more like mid 13s. Like I said the start is very important. I believe the rule is 0.1 off the 60ft is 0.2 off the 1/4 mile. Terminal speeds tend to be similar regardless off the start

so taking manual into consideration, what would you expect for the difference to be. its never going to be identical is it, so an additional second, two second ? (if we say all possible factors are identical, purely manual and DSG difference) launch control and gear changes give the DSG the upper hand considerably ?

Yeah dsg is perfect for 1/4 mile runs. Was more giving you an idea how quick 11.9 is.

With Launch Control on, by the time the cars hit 60, the DSG will be around a half second quicker. Then every subsequent gear change the manual will be at a disadvantage, and drop further back.

(However, with no launch control, the manual will be quicker initially than the DSG, then the DSG will catch up through the quicker changes, but you wouldn't go to a strip and not use LC!)

a second slower to 60, plus 3 gear changes, could be looking an difference of 2 to 2.5 seconds then?

the car is apr stage 1 with apr intake, the car had half a tank of fuel and nothing else taken out.

and im roughly 16 stone so not bad.

stage 2 and downpipe is on order now and the car has been flat out since day one,

Seems a low terminal for that sort of time. You sure the terminal wasn't higher? Or the time higher? Lol

Low tyre pressures can drop a few mph off at the gain of 60ft etc

APR Mk7 R - 11.96 at 114mph

The terminal speed dors seem low at 110mph

yeah certainly got off the line well, beat my friend off the line and he has a 600bhp GTR

That definitely doesn't make sense then lol! Would need to be about 1.6 to get that time at that speed
