you don't need it ticking over, it does more harm than good.
the best thing you can do is park it up. lock it...and leave it.
whether the battery is in the car, or inside the house, it might or it might not go flat.
leaving it in the car and having it cranked every few days will drain it, and kill it.
it'll also leave condensation in your engine and exhaust.
as for anything else, it can be sat for months on end with no implications.

I would recommend hooking up an intelligent charger like those made by CTEK. I've had one for many years and it has more than paid for itself several times over.

As above, buy an intelligent charger to keep the battery conditioned.
The day before you leave, give it a good long run to blow out condensation then park it up, put the charger in, lock it and walk away.
Personally, I would leave it in gear with the handbrake off.

I have left several of my previous cars for 3-4 months plenty of times and the only thing I do is leave it with the handbrake off. The ones I've left in a garage have faired better (brake disks wise) but the ones left out doors have been ok tbh. Batteries have always been spot on but then my cars have always been 2 years or younger.
I'm probably a good candidate for answering this, as I'm approaching the end of a 3 month driving ban. Only once during that time did I convince my missus to drive my car somewhere and that was 4 weeks into the ban. The car has been perfectly fine, started without a stutter when we went out in it and the only thing I can see 'wrong' is that the brake discs are rather rusty.
