Weird windscreen wiper problem.

Hi guys,
Have a really weird issue where my windscreen wipers won't work unless headlights are on or if I've been driving for a few minutes. Also the rear wiper just seems to do like a half wipe here and there and doesn't reset to its off position out of the way every time I turn them off either.
Has anyone cone across this before and fixed it?

The wiper motors have an ignition feed to them, so once you switch them off you have a feed to park them in the right position. Maybe this circuit is fused separately & there is something amiss with this circuit or it's earth??
 
The rear wipers are well known for failing. Both my A4 and S4 had knackered rear motors. The washer fluid runs through the spindle and when the seals fail it fills the motor with water but I've never heard of it effecting the front wipers as well. Could just be a coincidence.
