Hi All

Its been a while since I posted here, but Im hoping someone can help.

My car keeps going into limp home mode with various other faults being shown on dash, but my local garage says fault codes are point to EGR valve replacement

They are currently quoting between £550 - £650 for the replacement of the part as they say the valve is £350 and its around a 4 hour job, does this sound right?

Thanks

Lee

I dont know the exact pricing for a new one, but have you considered a EGR delete?
I was quoted £105 for a EGR delete including the codeing, this was part of a larger quote for DPF and EGR delete too so not sure if this was discounted atall.

Thanks for the quick reply, To be honest Im looking to get rid of the car shortly as part exchange so wanted to replace the part ready for the next owner, but I was a little surprised about the cost and the 4 hours work, Im not sure where the EGR valve is located and how hard it would be to replace.

Regards

could you go to another garage for a second opinion? if it is clogged rather than broken, you can have it removed and cleared perhaps.
Found this video which seems to be for the 143 170 (not english)

Have no idea what he is saying, but doesnt look that hard and doesnt look like it would take 4 hours, Assuming the 177bhp engine is the same

Hi Scott

thanks for the reply, I'm in ilkeston derbyshire.

Thanks

check your engine code, my engine code for a 2.0tdi 170 from 2010 is CAGA as in the video, I think the only difference between the 140 is maybe better turbo map and maybe minor upgrade on parts, but codes are the same so should be the same block.

Sorry Lee I'm hiding down in West Berkshire so can't offer any personal recommendations. Shark Performance are in Mansfield, could perhaps give them a call for a price on an EGR replace to see how it compares with your local place? They are a well respected tuner but also do servicing work:

thanks. my engine code appears to be CGLC. the problem appears to be worse now as car went back into limp mode last night after 3 weeks of being OK. also warnings on dash at same time for start/stop system, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring and electronic hand brake wouldn't switch off by itself, had to manually take it off.

Thanks Scott, will give them a call and see what they say.

Also try C&R in Nottingham, your side of the city and they offer sensible advice.
