What was in the car before the RNSE?, did you convert from single din to double din?

That's a very good price, even for a Mk1 RNSE!

You may struggle with the code though, you could always try a dealer or have a look on line as there is lots of people who can get codes now

yah bud a done a conversion singel to double
am not the smartest but with a bit of time and youtube i managed

I take it you stuck with the single din air con unit and just trimmed it down? If so then you are stuck with the gap, ether buy a double din air con unit and astray or stick something like a bit of sponge in the gap to stop stuff going down the gap.

no bud a took everything from the other car double din cage climate control stereo even took the center bit the arm rest goes into
a got a really good deal

dint trim anythin it all fited just a gap and am thinking maybe av missed or left somethink out

It may actually be the console that is slightly different as was set up for single din.
Just roll up some carbon rap to the thickness and push in place as a filler. Will blend in.

yah bud a might just do that

av been reading up some think about the code may be on the stereo when turned on heres what i get

AUZBZ&D))!)%)£

cheers bud the car a took mine out was an sline estate a took every thing so a dont no why a have a gap

looks like a bit of an odd one this, maybe worth while pulling out the head unit again and checking the double DIN chassis is correct etc and not been modified, the head unit will be the right size and the climate control units are the same sizes so maybe one or both units are not quite located properly.

Hard to say from the angle of your picture but think you just need an ashtray lid from a double din, they don't have the larger radius along the back that the single din ones have. Double dins are almost flat with little or no radius along the back so it'll look closer to the climate unit.

Think your onto something there ajax, look at the front edge of the lid & it's got a slight crease formed into it thus tipping it down at the back.

so then, if both the head unit and climate unit are the correct size and fit in the same position why the single din astray as apposed to double din item, surley the climate unit fits in the cage in the same position wether you have double din or single din cage, or is it all different then.

Single DIN climate sits much higher in the cage, basically in the same place as the lower half of the double radio. Below that there is a small storage area behind the ashtray that the double doesn't have.
A single DIN climate is slightly wider too as the cage tapers out bottom to top so as mentioned above you can trim it down if you're fitting it into a double DIN cage.

when i went to see the audi with the double din it was complete a took every thing the din cage the climate the ash try
every thing i could take it looed good in the estate also it was a 55 reg

so may be your right euans

heres a better pic guys ano it needs a clean bud i like to get every thing right be4

ano a need to put the two bolts in also under the climate guys but what i am thinking are they maybe ment to be somthink on the climet the silver trim like singel one

Yeah, the stuff you have bought has definitely been a single din conversion. I wouldn't worry about it too much though.

I'll have all mines out tomorrow so i'll take a picture to show you the difference

So if I buy the double din ashtray it should be fine guys

Right, I took a picture of my ashtray when I removed my RNSE from the car today. As you can see, the double din ashtray is flat (like Ajax said) also at the back there is a lip that would prevent anything from falling down the gap between the aircon unit and the ashtray.

yah bud so al need to get that double din ash tray nice one

thanks euans2 for doing that for me

right guys a got my new ashtray to day it doesnt fit

i think the guy i got it from may have modded it so what do i need to get the flat top ashtry to fit guys help

is it a diffrent double din cage i need maybe as the one av got has the button pass air bag off
so is it a diffrerent din i need for the flat ashtray to fit

also i have noticed the climate control on the one am using looks like its been filed so would like to get the proper one for it

may be a good idea now to avoid buying the wrong parts to have a look at the parts database in the B7 section, find the year and model of your car, make a note of the part numbers of the parts , then look at the parts list for the same model but using the correct double din setup, if you compare part numbers and item description you'll end up with a list of the correct parts to achieve what you are looking to do, may take you a little while but at least you be sure that the parts you need are correct and it will all go together properly, well that's what I would do in your shoes, good luck chap.

thanks bud for the reply av already bought a bunch of bits a just wanted to close the gap up abit so i bought the flat top ashtray but that doesnt fit
so a dont no if its the double din cage i need or the surrounding or what

Image
Will it be another one of these I need but the double din one guys just thinking the flattop ashtray may be different pattering

You do know that you Cant fit the ashtray without pulling the climate unit forward from the housing which also means you need to pull the Rnse unit out too, poor design this just to get the ashtray in .
Apologies if you already know this .

hi bud no a didnt no that but i did take the old curved ashtray out as i got told i needed the flat top one but even witht he rns-e and climate out doesnt go in to the 3 holes at bk or line up

thats why i am thinking maybe a diffrenet double din cage or the middle unit i need

also i noticed my double din cage might be out an auto would this make any diffrence

Pretty sure the cage is the same for both auto and manual and yes you need the flat top ashtray lid for this setup the ashtray is held down with 2 screws which on on wings either side , it is still a fiddle even with everything pulled out of the way.

A tryed again last night it's defo won't go in the other ashtray the curved on goes in no problem seems the left of the flat top ashtray it's different so not sure what I will need to get this to fit
