Saloon Or Avant, Which Is The Better Looking ....and I'm Biased Anyway.

Well I guess I'll throw in my vote............ Avant

Yeah I know, I'm biased as I run one, its such a good choice as a balance of looks, practicality, road presence etc.

I think its because so many other manufacturers estate variants look just like they've bolted a box on the back - ( ( or in the case Citroen's C5, the rear of a wild west covered wagon - what were the designers on ?!?) and I guess Audi really made their mark in motoring history when they selected the Avant varient when they built the RS2, I reckon that's stuck in our subconcious influencing our decision ;)

guys everybody has their own likes so some biast will come into it but I bought my avant for practicality and the looks came second

You've all got it wrong this is the best looking car every made :puke2:

My vote is for Avant, but only S-Line / RS4 the SE just doesn't do it for me

I thought special editions were s lines With a few add on's?

Least the scorpios engines are bomb proof rather than **** themselves like audis pmsl

This is all I could find, did they do a diesel special edition then? And did it have more power?

n 2007 Audi introduced a version of the B7 named the 'Special Edition', which built on the S-Line specification and also included the black optics pack, the RS4 style 8J X 18 ‘7-arm double spoke’ design alloy wheels, Two-tone Graphite/Black Volterra leather, 3-spoke sports leather/Alcantara multi-function steering wheel with gear knob and hand brake handle in Alcantara with silver stitching, ventilated cross-drilled front disc-brakes, black tailpipes and black roof rails (avant model only). It also had a power increase of 20PS, giving an output of 220PS on the 2.0T model.

Also found this

According to 2007 Swedish vehicle inspection data, the Audi A4 Avant with diesel engine is the most reliable vehicle available on the market, with vehicle inspection rejection rate of 0.0% in three year old category.[20]

that'll be the mk2 then as mk1 ( what i have) has silver roof rails, chrome rad grill plus the other goodies as above, perforated leather mfsw leather steering wheel, and full leather handbrake cover, black headlining, 8j x18 dtm alloys etc etc etc
mine also came factory fitted with daytime running lights, xeon plus headlamp with adaptive lighting, headlamp wash, front & rear parking sensors, airbags all round plus front and rear, rs4 rear anti-roll bar , black valcona full electric seats etc with heating blah ,blah blah. :p
Oh yes and it uses the same engine as used in the dtm's (BUL) which is a different spec unit in some key areas.
so pretty well just another basic A4 B7 avant then, still love it though after all the agro its caused me:cool::)

maybe a 7-8 year old car but you still get one hell of a good spec for your money, and i allways like to get as much spec for my pounds as possible.:);)

dont you just love forums, walking that emotional tightrope all the time ;)

So my vote is now for the Avant, especially the special edition.

Blimey Rob ! They certainly ticked all the options on the purchase order form for your car ;)

Mine carries same basic spec as yours, missing the factory xenons (and related bits) parking distance sensors and heated seats tho' :( But does have the piano gloss black trim instead of the silver and sunroof plus factory tow kit

Probably the same price as an rs4 when it was new with all those options.

yep, the car ticked all my requirements boxes when i was looking to buy it last year, the factory fitted ones were a bonus you could say, it also came debaged from the factory, when i had a good look at all the options etc fitted it appears that the prev owner ordered it specially this way and with other small and sutle extra options too.

doesnt have cruise control though, but thats in the pipeline, and i would have loved to have that sunroof option( lucky man).
in was looking back through the receipts etc for the car,it appears that it was running 19" rims with 235/35 -19" rubber, havnt found out what rims they were as yet, but i will do, which accounts for the fact that when i purchased it the original tyres were still on the wheels with 75% tread, cracked all over but loads of tread. had them all changed FOC to sportmax's by audi.:D 3 days after i got it home.

Yup. Rob I was chuffed when I found mine with the sunroof, there just aren't many around ! Also another bonus, has the factory detatchable tow equipment, the swan neck is absolutely pristine, so I could imagine its never been used in anger !

The cruise install was as easy as it is suggested, didnt bother with the lower column cowl, I just cut the cowl to the mould line on the inside of it with a dremel - fitted just fine! We had a bit of a fiddle with VCDS to code it in tho, the car didnt realise it had the mfsw, even tho it was all that was functioning ok ?!? Anyways, good job my VAG Indie knew his way around !

I trust all the trials and tribulations you had with yours are all ironed out now ?

Avant.wouldn't have looked twice at an A4 otherwise.there are way too many saloons over here in Ireland.and their nearly always black.

Moved from this to my 56 b7 avant and still have a smile

aha , another subaru convert, nice car there and what B7 do you have now.
I moved from a 2006 legacy estate to my present avant, but i'm still not 100% sure it was really the best move, performance wise yes, looks yes, etc etc, but a heck of a lot of downsides so far, only time will tell to be sure.

Ive got the 140 avant sline standard for now

wheel choice and fitments does appear to be a very hot topic to be honest and probably one that can only really be settled by the person who want a specific wheel style etc, one mans choice sort of thing;).
I prefer an 18" as they do appear to be a good trade off with sline suspension, but its a personal thing, my avant has 18" but previous owner mentioned he had fitted 19" on it and he wasnt keen on them etc.

Deffinately the avant , won a saloon at auction didn't really like it when I got it home so I bought an avant instead , feels a lot sportier even in a s-line model than my s-line saloon felt

Although I still have both at home just incase the other half needs a 5 door rather than a 3 door

Had to be an Avant for me for the space to carry spare wheels, tools to the track. Never considered a saloon,

Have to say even though i bought a B7 S-Line Sp Ed in April it has to be the Avant S-Line one of the best looking estate out there

I also have to say the Avant as I am also biased.......and more so as it's my first Audi owned. I purchased it for necessity and practicality first most as we have a rather large Woolly Siberian Husky. But even if it wasn't purchased for our needs I do have to concur that the saloon has a much uglier ***!

The only thing I don't really like about the Avant is they look bigger than they actually are.....the poor dog has more room to lay down in the back but if he sits up he has to stoop his head a little compared to the old car and if anyone wants to get lift somewhere they haven't got a cat in hells chance of sitting behind me!

Not been many new replies here for a fair while chaps but there have been quite a few new A4 B7 members and guys move across from other groups so time for you all to add your preference chaps, avant still for me to be honest, saloon is very nice but the avant is just spot on for me, ticks all the boxes nicely.
rob

Avant for me too, I've owned both and like both but the Avant just looks better and it's more practicable

ah now then chap, you best buy another one then as you'll miss it otherwise.
