Hi there, has anyone replaced the standard S3 8P1 (3dr) top mounts with the RS3 ones? And if so, do the sport back RS3 rear top mounts fit a 3dr?

I've got both front and rear lined up, but I think the 8P1 RS was sportback only, and my S is a 3dr... Don't want to order them if they aren't going to fit!

I've read a lot about this upgrade, and about it being a good thing to do with suspension off, but couldn't see any 3dr vehicle specific info...

Cheers in advance.

Just to clear this up - the RS3 and S3 have the same rear mounts

The rumour is they are a bit sturdier than standard S3, and a they are a bit cheaper for some reason...!? Not sure if there is a performance improvement though @Sayam

Will report back once they're on!

Can someone supply part numbers for the front RS3 top mounts? Or @mjr901 could you PM me a price? My car is a 2011 sline cab. Thx.

The part number is 8J0412331.

They aren't just for RS3's they are in SEAT Leons dating back to 2006 lol

PM on the way.

I wouldn't say so? I think you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference.

As @mjr901 says, no difference in the cab at all, but the car after fitting definitely feels firmer at the corners, it also feels like there is a little less roll/tighter cornering... could just be placebo, but personally, it's an improvement.

I wouldn't bother with rears as they are cast/solid metal on the 3dr, not sure about 5dr... Super easy to fit as well.

The old ones looked a real mess, really squashed and pretty ragged, but that was after 90k...

Ok I'm convinced - thx.

I think you may be able to do this by a quicker method but I'd do it the right way which is:

On axle stands. Wheels off, wipers off (13mm). Remove the panel at bottom of windscreen.
Remove the bolt and nut securing the strut to the hub (m14 spline drive and 18mm spanner) you should replace this bolt. Use a strut spreader to split the hub.
Remove the 3 13mm top mount securing bolts each side from where you removed the panel by the windscreen.
Pull the strut out of the hub and away from the car.
Compress the spring using a spring compressor. Hold the damper still with a 7mm hex key, use a 21mm Swan neck spanner to remove the nut.
Remove the top mount and replace.

Refitting is obviously just the reverse of this.

It may be easier to remove the strut if you split the wishbone ball joint and/or track rod end, both are 18mm nuts.
You may also wish the loosen the 21mm strut securing nut before any thing else as its often very hard to do off the car.
