hi all so I've had a look at changing the filter and oil easy enough but the oil in the haldex unit won't drain and is very dirty ? I've read that running the engine will worm it up but will this help it drain as when o removed the drain plug a few drips came out but not much more came out when I removed the filter . or should I jack the car up more at the back to aid draining ???

Its supposed to be normal operating temp but... that won't prevent oil from coming out if there is any in there but based on what you are saying there isn't much oil in yours at all...

sounds that way I got it cheap as a bit of a project and it had no earth cable and was only running front wheel drive so I might just get the oil up to temp and try again then just fill it up . Is there any way of flushing it out ?

There is no oil in to get to temp. Sounds like a fault so they unplugged in order to continue using the s3.
Good luck

I found the the rotten earth cable laying on the diff so it might be an easy fix but there are no signs of a leak so well see

It doesn't normally leak out it just burns away and goes crusty... especially as yours was black... hopefully you have caught it in time...

Have seen the drain plug threads stripped before though so could leaked there I guess but hopefully just adding new oil and a filter will get you back...

Check for rear wheel hopping when turning at low speed as this is an indication that the controller and/or plates have suffered from the lack of oil
