I got up & saw this dent & some paint mark on my bonnet, not sure if its a vandalism or something hit the car because of a windy weather from last couple of days, what ever it is make me very sad :grumpy:

what you guys think can it be repaired by small dent repairer or it need a body shop to spray the whole bonnet ?

Thanks in advance

Thats quite a naughty sharp dent by the looks, i'm not sure a dent specailist would be able to get that out but best go see one and see what they say.

The fact that its also chipped your paintwork would mean putting chip filler or blending but would you be happy with the end result?

I'd end up getting it resprayed which probably wouldnt be far off the cost of doing the above.

Gutting!!!
Personally, looking at the damage, like Rich said, I'd lean towards getting the whole bonnet resprayed. Probably set you back £300 or so

cheers guys,
i am still not sure how this happened, these are the times when you really want camera inside your car. i have been on the phone since morning to get some quotes!
i have a smart cover but they don't repair scratches or dents on the bonnet or on the roof but i sent them pictures to try my luck!!

Looks like 'smart cover' is sadly not that 'smart'!
I really feel for you, that would literally ruin my whole month/year!! Let us know what kind of quotes you get for the bonnet to be done.

Mate, that's not good! I'd be pretty gutted too. I've had a few repairs done to dents over the years and one thing I would say, get it done sooner rather than later as if you leave it, you might never get it done. Also, not sure where you live but I've had 3 repair jobs done from a company called Dingmasters. Always been very impressed with the results.

On the quotations, if they ask for the colour code DON'T use them. A good bodyshop will not match using a colour code, they will match to the colour now and the surrounding panels.

Thanks for the info mate

i have other option to go through with my insurance & pay excess £150 but next year it will haunt me.

agree 100% with what gray said, i had around half of my a3 resprayed at various points in time, and the guy that done it only worked out of a little unit but he would take it to somewhere that would do a colour match for the car rather than the code and it's always been perfect

I totally agree with that sentiment, what looks like a crater today, turns into a few small dings tomorrow, and then gets accepted as war wounds - and then expectation that more will occur! It is now or never - having said that, my S4 came to me with some badly (previous owner?) touch up attempts for stone chips, my logic, almost 2.5 years on is that I'd get very very annoyed when the first stone touched my sorted out bonnet, so at this time these rough touch up blobs remain!

I know its a nasty ding in an obvious place, and it will get sorted, but spare a thought for poor Thorasgard with the wall fallen on his ride.

Yeah, theres no getting away from what looks like a stupid, spiteful vandalisation to golfathers car but it will be sorted. I am hoping Thorasgards car is damaged enough though to be a write off and some form of replacement will be decided on . We have agreed values here including ticked options etc that are all full agreed upon for this very purpose. Tunes etc fly under if you don't tell em. Sports Seats ,Bang and O, Metallic paint etc these are the things that make up the final figure that you can hold them too if something horrendous like this occurs. Touch wood I've been lucky. I know this is your thread godfather but I really hope these things work out for the both of you. Thorasgard included.

Now that you have mentioned "options", it seems that most BMW and Audi owners just insure their cars as a basic build of the variant they have, probably just in ignorance, but it is now being said that insurance companies know all about the huge variance in prices of a new BMW or Audi with or without any options, so maybe the price being offered in a write off could be quite a bit lower unless that exact build of car was what the cover was for.

Edit:- and ignorance on the part of the car owner will get put down to just that!

@rum4mo it depends on the insurer although you are right the cost insured must cover the car and all the options. In my experience Admiral want you to list every option, even if it was on the car at build time. Aviva do not. I gave up on Admiral as it was just too painful trying to find the right bracket for "sports diff" and "flat bottom steering wheel". When I got my S4 I spent an hour on the phone to them adding all the options, it was painful.

I only mentioned that as it seems that most insurers have quite recently wakened up to this huge potential variance in pricing, I am still with Admiral out of laziness, though they did make me pay dearly for declaring the Milltek exhaust and maybe the 19" alloy wheel option.

If nothing else, I thought that I'd thrown this in as a wake up call to people to possible avoid future trouble and lots of these now wised up insurers, might wait until claim time to declare a "got you!" as initially they want your business.

Edit:- using winter wheels and tyres used to cause Admiral issues, but recently they seemed to have started to understand what that was all about.

Our insurers, like most worldwide, I'm sure given half a chance wiggle out of anything. I recently did our cars, two of them, and after beating on the desk, threatening leaving to another co. etc etc etc managed to get my two premiums down by a total of $450 between them. No changes in excess, cover, anything, except the cost of the total of the two premiums. I do this song and dance every year. Have been with my insurer for god knows how long, they are a large reputable company called AAMI , one of our largest, and they send out a premium quote every year 4 weeks prior to expiration of the policy. If you want to pay what they ask for fine, that's up to the individual. But for the sake of a phone call ?$450. Are your companies the same? Sorry, didn't mean to go if in this direction with another thread.

looks like a new car :)
you ever report to the police to get a crime number? I presume the finger marks in the original picture are yours and not the culprit (if it was a person), be real nice if they had left a finger print :p
I see birds drop pretty big things sometimes, you would be surprised what magpies will try bring back to their nests
