Essexman's A3 1.8t Sport project thread

Get it on the dyno, hopefully this rolling road day happens.
I might have some 5mm eibach spacers floating about somewhere.

It's been a case of Audi A3 says No the last few days, as far as starting is concerned, started everytime the last few years, untill last wednesday morning (after a bit of rain & new backbox a week before, is all i can think of thats changed) fuel pump works, you can hear the starter motor trying, it has half a tank of petrol, cant see any physical split hoses etc from top down engine, tapped throttle ever so slightly, nothing, floored it quickly, nothing, Part of me thinks its to do with me getting a new rear backbox/ muffler/ silencer, because thats the only thing thats changed recently, but that was a week before it failed to start (being used every day in that week) so im not so sure, the battery is getting low where i've been trying, alot of people are telling me ''maybe electrical'', so best to diagnose with vcds i guess, but the car cant move, so anyone on here available to help me see if any codes show up ?

Are 'guest advert posts' within the thread new ?, never seen them in my thread before whilst logged in etc, this one in particular ^ linking me to ebay to buy audi's, not sure if others see it viewing this thread, but its there for me, as the author/ op,

All sent & thanks for pm replys, now charging batt for next round of fault finding

My fault finding AND the AA man's fault finding/ checking/ diagnosis, with no luck, so off to the garage to get stung for a price

Hey, just had a good read of this thread, love the work, looking to do a few things myself, my main question is about buying an Ecu with stage one, already on there, was it plug and play ? I'm having a few problems with my one (brought a cat c with front damage, had no keys, got a new set, was going to get the new ones reprogrammed, £130, dealer found the lost keys, they unlock the car via remote, but it does not seem to be transmitting to the Imobilizor and was thinking about and Ecu with imobi off, but not heard of it before ?)

Oh and if you need any parts, i have just started breaking a second car for some parts I need but 98% of it is still available

The Photo is of my car, still needs a bit of work, but body work is pretty good for its age, only 103,000 miles, and full leather interior, so I'm hoping to keep it for a few years

Thanks, Martin

Hi, nice, if you asked me any of that , but without the ''lost keys & old ones not working in barrell to start the car'' bit, i would have more of a clue lol,

I would say hell yeahh just get one off the same dude i used- but not so sure if an immo delete stage 1 ecu would work with your old original keys, maybe someone else on this forum could jump in here about that, Might need new barrell or god knows what,

The guy offers generic ecu stage 1 (190ish) bhp depending on any other mods you have etc, with or without immo

or you could send him yours in the post and he will map it & or immo delete (this would be slightly cheaper than buying one off him)

or you could buy one & if it all works wonders then send him your old ecu for some cashback (ive kept my old one incase i ever need it)

MAKE SURE YOU check the number on the ecu though & message him about it to double check etc

Thanks for the heads up about the parts you have, but i dont need anything at the moment

Little update- with twin ss 3'' out rolled exhuast, Not a bad tone, not tooo loud, little bit of overun burble etc

Not been on here for a while, not much to mention except That problem further up the thread about not starting has been kept at bay and not come back which is always nice,

Had an issue with rear l/h n/s standard caliper was 'sticking' so the pad wore out quick! , brake pedal went to floor couple times (intermittant) (maybe seperate issue master cylinder ?) the sticking caliper would NOT wind back (seized) so got a new caliper/ a set of brembo pads for the rear, pads went in the new caliper (wound back/ not sticking)

the trouble is now the other side at rear (drivers side) wont wind back to fit the new pads! but for now- its not sticking (releases ok) & current pads have some life- so next to order would be a new caliper for that side BUT! :) while im at it and spending money in that area i was wondering whats the tried & tested best brake option for a cheapish price - - thats not going to fail on me within months etc ? Ive heard LCR brake set up all round, shall i go down that route or another (better than standard a3) decent but cheap option? Id like to keep my current standard size rotors if pos because they are not bad M.tech grooved/ cross drilled etc

Also to mention - my wipers all of a sudden decided not to work a few weeks ago, i stopped the car, turned engine off, back on- working ok ! ?

then failed again another day, tried same thing, but this time still no movement (tried delay/ once only & washer wipe) not moving, left it overnight- works fine the next day & no probs since ! ??

Update from last post- 2 new (standard original) calipers at rear & had no problems since

the wipers just wasnt re setting

''My brand new issue now- is the 3 bleeps oil pressure warning on dash lcd'' ! before i get stung by a garage just thought id ask on here -
is this as simple as most of my research is suggesting ? (oil pick up pipe in the sump) ? any other hoses/ breathers to consider while im at it ?

This appeared on my S3 after a service (red warning) at the garage. Fresh thick gloopy oil went in and the original pump was having none of it. Put a new oil pump on and cleaned the pick up out and has been fine ever since. Check out the pickup, if it still doesn't fix it, it might be new oil pump time.... :-(
