My cloned S3

Yeah, I'd be in favour of getting myself a new plate, because as soon as you report it you'll be pulled over every time a cop car with anpr goes past you!

Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle!

Definitely a stolen car that Oli! 70 in a 30 with your reg kinda confirms it!

I lol'ed at the 'dealership mistake'

Why?

We thought it might be a dealership mistake before the OP mentioned the speeds the car was doing. LOL.

What are the chances of seeing the same colour car with the same plate? Let us know what happens and I hope you get it sorted without too much hasstle!
I have never seen another S3 here in Ireland, I have seem a red RS3 tho. As an Ex Pat I just can't remember the license plate on my car.

I'm hoping I get new plates now, don't fancy getting pulled every time I see a police car

I've seen a few about, maybe 4 in the 2 months of owning mine. Never thought i'd see one with the same plate though lol

Oli I wouldn't bother changing your plates. They obviously saw you which is why they sped up. Dave's mentioned already but they'll know that you'll report it and they'll change the plates.

They've either seen your plates in pictures on line or just by driving past your house or work.

I think in this case its more likely that they've physically seen your car as opposed to on line as its in the same Town as you.

It it were me I'd be looking at my home security as either way they know about your car.

If you put private plates on your S3 it will just make it stand out to crims even more.

Don't show your plates on t'internet folks. I think I've proved my point!

Oh and I doubt your plates will be used again as they've been rumbled using them.

Yeah, you're more likely to get stopped by the Police but if you've got nothing to hide I wouldn't worry.

You're more likely to get stopped by the Police in a high powered audi these days anyway, to check its not a clone...

You are probably right, just going to be a pain being pulled over and going through the same thing over and over.

I've got CCTV at home but there isn't a lot more I can do other than get a big dog lol

There will be a marker on your plate to say its being used as a clone.

The stolen marker will be on the original plate for the S3 you saw so the Police will be aware.

Its one of those, the Police will be on guard as its either the genuine vehicle or a stolen high powered audi. No way of knowing for sure until you light it up.

Just try and be understanding and polite. They'll probably talk to you about how nice your car is and send you on your way.

I'm sure when I explain what happened they'll be fine :) Just more thinking how a 5 min trip to the shops could turn into an hour

You probably won't even have to explain. If the car has a marker for being a possible clone but stops for us its highly likely its the cloned car not the stolen one.

The Police understand that. They won't want to bother or alarm you but will be cautious.

Don't be surprised if a few high powered Police cars turn up though. Its just in case...

The type of people who steal high powered Audis always fail to stop and always fight. There is a massive difference between them and the genuine driver. It'll be pretty obvious to the Police once you're stopped.

I'd advise you keep some I.D on you for a while though to make it a bit easier and quicker.

Oh and as soon as the blue lights come on stop straight away it prevents things escalating.

You would think in this day and age..... and with the actual cost of cars that the DVLA would have come up with some kind of better security for this type of crime? Hologram on the plate and plates only available from registered suppliers would be a start!

^^ yes would be good. You can get plates made up piece of cake from eBay sold as show plates no documentation required.

Be prepared for the odd reinforced stop too - nothing to be alarmed about! Pretty impressive!

I think i'll be keeping my eyes peeled :) I've got my licence and after last night i've got the V5 with me so I can prove the VIN matches etc

Ah Batch you spoiled the surprise! Lol! We aim to please. All for a reason.

Oli, leave the V5 at home bud. No need for it. The Police national computer checks will sort it with your reg and chassis number. You'll only leave it in the car. If the car was to get pinched with the V5 you'll have problems. Keep your driving licence on you

Don't keep either in the car, just a copy of the V5 folded up in your wallet or something. Hope it all comes good - sure the Police will be all over this motor if it pops up.

Ok fair enough, that was advice of my local police station lol

Good job you spotted it.
Better knowing about it than not.

I might have to get a tracker in my car i have the advanced key and i hear they can just smash the window and code a key to the car and drive off ??

I went out for 5 min trip and this happened, after the whole ****** thing I asked the senior officer 'Why didn't you just check my plates I've been a resident 10+ years car 5+ years'. Turned out the junior in his unmarked car accused me of scoping the 'hood lol .... even started shouting why would I turn round... Never thought that would mean I get blocked in by 5 cars!!! Didn't go for a night drive for a few months after that :/

Ah sh** thread gon' b' derailed!

As you can prove the car isn't cloned can you get a letter from the police stating this and keep it with you .
I watched a police programme a while ago when they stopped a car as it had another identical one they were looking for and the driver had a letter ,( don't know who from though)and it was sorted in no time .

Just came across this thread. Sorry to hear about this. Bizarre coincidence you spotted it but as others have said, better to know than not. Will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how the story goes.

John.

I posted earlier in this post asking if there are any stolen Sepang Blue S3's on ASN...Anyone???

I'm not sure that they'll be too ready to ditch your plate. I can drive for months and not see a police car let alone one with plate recognition.

But if they do a change there's plenty more to pick from on here............

On the other hand, living in a city I drive through static ANPR cameras on most journeys...

DVLA have been very helpful, I didn't even write in about a fixed penalty notice.

I called them and it's a standard letter they send, basically no matter what you write about. How ridiculous is that?

I did reply in the thread thinking it could be. No news and I haven't been pulled yet

Insane!! What a load of crap! Leave it to the computers to sort it out instead of a real person with a brain being able to actually help people.

Did you hear any more from the police?

I haven't heard a thing, haven't been pulled over and I do 250 miles a week. Just trying to forget about it now.
