*Flaps! Makes the exhaust sound meatier!

Exhaust flaps all open
===================1 – Engine module
Exhaust Flaps deactivate
Byte 9
Bit 2 - Exhaust Flaps installed check box default activated – deactivate it and save as usual.

Do you know about the legality of your change you've made?

Not 100% sure to be honest but I believe some Merc's function in this way, as well as other brands. Am sure someone more in the know will be able to advise.

European Directive 76/656/EEC, as amended by 2008/89/EC

General:
No flashing lights other than:
Direction-indicator lamps, the vehicle-hazard warning signal, amber side-marker
lamps [..], and the emergency stop signal.

DRLs:
If the distance between the front direction-indicator lamp and the daytime running
lamp is equal or less than 40 mm, the electrical connections of the daytime
running lamp on the relevant side of the vehicle may be such that either:
(a) It is switched OFF; or
(b) Its luminous intensity is reduced during the entire period

If a direction-indicator lamp is reciprocally incorporated with a daytime running
lamp, the electrical connections of the daytime running lamp on the relevant side
of the vehicle shall be such that the daytime running lamp is switched OFF during
the entire period (both ON and OFF cycle) of activation of the direction-indicator
lamp.

Summary for 8V:
If you have Xenon or Halogen lights, you can switch off or dim the DRL during the indicator function
If you have LED headlights, you must have the DRL OFF for the entire period the indicator function is active

If anyone is around the Birmingham area i'd love to get some of these coded in. I've tried map users but I think unless you've worked on a 8V it is a lot to ask

Thanks @veeight

Do you know what the standard behaviour is for Xenon's? I tested a 65 plate today and the indicator did not affect the DRL... I would assume this is standard?

With my 63 plate the default factory behaviour was to switch the DRL of the indicating side off for the duration of the turn signal.

really want to give this a go, however i don't want to unplug cables below the car.

Can anyone help me out with this within the Watford/hertfordshire area?

would be much appreciated and would sort you out with a drink!

If you can make it to North London I can assist with this.

Afternoon gents!

I've never used VCDS but am going to visit a very kind chap on Saturday who has offered to enable my sub out and centre speaker (so I can add the Audi Sound System) via VCDS (he says he has some general knowledge of it but not a great depth). Would love to enable some of these mods too if they're relatively quick and easy. From what you guys have mentioned it would be awesome to have:
  1. Oil temp in DIS (again why is this not standard!?)
  2. Wiper service position menus added to MMI
  3. Visual Parking Display
  4. Rear Light DLRs
  5. Exhaust flaps always open (YES PLEASE!) :racer:
I've got auto fold mirrors so will try the dipped reverse and see if it works. Also something I noticed this morning, you have to switch the position to heat the mirrors, I swear this was never the case on my 8P A3? No biggy just confused me in my early morning daze!

Anyway, is stuff like this relatively simple? DJAlix I'll check out your sig link too and have a hunt :readit:

P.s. to the OP, hope I'm not hijacking, just good to know how simple it is to do :friends:

Before I decided to invest in VCDS etc I popped over to see a fellow forum member in order to get a few things done, experienced user but not on the 8V platform. I made a list of the mods I wanted with the coding notes for each and we ended up working off my sheet. Is worth doing.

Check out the main VCDS thread and also the VCDS Document in my signature, between them everything should be covered :)

Big thanks to you guys and h5djr for helping me with the coding (what a gent!), added oil temp display, disabled the seat belt warning, enabled the sub woofer (hopefully, adding the sub this week so will test it then), opened the exhaust flaps (what a treat!).

Really thrilled with the changes having never used VCDS before, relatively simple once you get the hang of it and have the codes (cheers DJAlix!). Smiles all round :)

Looking to add visual parking display, wiper service position, visual confirmation of comfort close and exterior lightning in MMI when we have more time :friends:

Is it legal to turn DRL's off? And why would you want to do it?
If DJ Alix will go to an EU countries with DLRs off he will be fined :D In uk they didn't make this law becuse of stubbornity , UK didn't want to copy EU laws
Audi and other german cars started to make lights still on as drivers constantly been forgetting to turn 'em on and being stopped and fined by police :D
And they STLL are fined with old cars before 2012..
But DJ Alix wants front DRLs off but rears he wants on .. weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I believe that as of 2013 any road going vehicle has to have DLRs on permanently from ignition 1st position. Some EU safety thing.

I have recoded mine so they are off in light switch position 0 so I can sit in the car using VCDS etc etc without lighting up the street in the evenings :)
Somone been complaining that you have lights on ?

I think you need need to use your brain my friend. DRL’s off in zero switch position = both front and rears off.... so that they don’t drain the battery while coding or maybe while washing the car with radio on etc etc. Why no just use the MMI menu option? Switch is faster :)

Aaah sorry thnx for advice , I will use more brain :D I thought u have front off and rear on in zero :innocent:
But don't worry, about battery drain. LEDs takes about half of power than old cars bulbs :)
I don't have LED control in MMi ..

When you need to run a car on battery for an extended period of time turning off all possible consumers helps to slow battery drain.
Thanks for your constructive comments, you have yourself a great day now :)

Plus 1 for the DRLs off in the "0" position. When waiting for the wife in a parking garage and backed into a space... Everyone driving by thinks you're leaving with DRLs on. Easier to turn them off via switch while waiting... Forever I might add. :icon thumright:

Guys can you rather tell me how to set radio to mute when I start car?
I HATE when radio starts automatically with engine
Thnx

I think that the only way to prevent that is to turn off the Infotainment system when you turn off the engine.

I noticed this issue was fixed when my MMI software was updated to allow satellite view with the replacement of Google Maps. If you are still under warranty, it might not hurt to give Audi a call and see if they can fix the issue via software update.

Hi
THat's not any issue that's set.. and there is no any warranty since 2015 and there is no any soft update that wouldn't solve it anyway.

Press and hold the volume knob on the centre console. It turns off the radio, satnav, etc and displays "infotainment system off" on the screen between the speed and rev counter.

Thinking about it, it may say "Entertainment System", either way the screen doesn't pop up when you turn on the ignition.

Yeah I know that keeps screen down .. I just need that volume would be at least on 1 all the time .. never mind .. it cannot be done just searched

Surely it comes back on at whatever it was on when you turned off the ignition ?
no itis like u accidentally will bash on it.. and you don't realise, but that's not the case audi set it default to 3 which is loud.. I was thinking set volume to default 1 in VCDS

In no real order, and only the ones available via VCDS:

1) Beep on Lock / Unlock with MMI Menu (cannot be done on 2015 cars)
2) Visual Confirmation of Comfort Closing
3) Visual Parking Display
4) DLR's Off in switch position 0
5) Auto Daylight Savings Time
6) Needle Sweep
6) Oil Temp Display
7) Rear Lights are DLR
8) Fog Lights as Static Cornering Lights
9) Disable Central Locking Auto Un-lock when key removed from ignition
10) DRL Brightness while indicating

There are so many more options tho... I would suggest reading the main VCDS thread and checking out the document linked in my signature :)
For No 4, What is the VCDS coding change required to do this ?

DRL off with light position "0":
1. Module 09 - Adaptation (10)
3. Go to channel: "AubEnlicht - Tagfahrlicht nur in Schalterstellung AUTO"
4. Change to Active (Default is Not Active)
