Heads up S3 owners...

Ha, I wish. xdrive 335s and v6 x5s. Also very good cars to be fair. x5s are a bit heavy with all the kit we carry but I'd rather be rammed in that than an Evo.

Back to the point. Believe me prevention is better than cure and its not just a case of 'the insurance and police will sort it'

Its a bad thing that 'individuals' with little driving experience have easy 'access' to high powered cars that are capable of 160mph+
What do you think they use them for? a joy ride? No, usually they use them to commit further crime, burglaries, more victims, more high speed pursuits, more collisions, more casualties, more Police officers putting themselves at risk (do I really need to highlight recent events)

They don't care about you driving the other way on your way back from work, but we do.

Most victims of cloning have recently put pictures of their cars on auto trader or sites like this showing number plates. I know, I've stopped them, they've told me.
So they get stopped by the Police, they get the speeding tickets, they get the Police knocking on their door in the middle of the night questioning them as to why they failed to stop.

We make it far to easy for the crims. They tell me! 'Its easy boss, found the car on a site, the guy even said where he lived. He has a personal plate so it stood out' etc... etc...

Like I said its up to you, we are doing our best and overall we are winning but we could do with your help.

Don't post plates, don't say where you live and what security you have.

CCTV, p.i.r, extra car security and identifying 'dodgy users' on here to the mods, being aware of the car behind you on your way home all good.

Don't be paranoid, just be sensible.

Someone should tell Audi UK as nearly all Regs of used approved cars area available, I expect this is true for nearly all manufacturers used car stock!!!!

I doubt a number plate from an audi site or forecourt would be used to clone a car.

If it were check it would show as being 'in trade' If at the time of checking it was on the road and not on the audi forecourt it would raise suspicion and it would be stopped. A cloned plate would need to be a similar model and colour which will show as owned and insured by another person ie 'no reports or markers, all in order'

Hmm just thought of a random S3: blue-sportback-s-tronic, looked on Autotrader and saw a private sale with plates on show! then tried again with a daytona 3 door....same again plates on show!

I have to wonder how much effort VAG or indeed any of the car manufacturers are putting into sorting issues such as theft of keyless cars; this is not a new problem and doesn't seem to be improving. Call my a cynic but you have to wonder if they feel it's in their interest to maintain the status quo; car is stolen; insurance pays out; victim buys new car and manufacturer shifts a second vehicle.

Theft of keyless cars is a problem especially Range Rover and BMW. Best to have a key IMO.
