Hi Peoples

I have an Audi A3 2015 S Line with Dunlop Sport Maxx and think that the tyres are a little noisy and wanted to know if any one feels the same?

The car was brought from new and has only done 2500 miles on the clock, was thinking of moving to the Goodyears A2 over the weekend, had them on my TT and loved them. The rating of my current tyres are a
F - Fuel,
A - Wet grip
67db

Goodyears;
C - Fuel
A - Wet grip
70db

Has anyone else got these tyres and what are you thoughts on them or have you the same views as me

Errrr, if you find the 67db rated Dunlop noisey the surely the 70db rated Goodyear are going to make even more noise....?

Not exactly the fuel rating of the Dunlop is very low F and the Goodyears C meaning that the Dunlop has more road contact meaning requires move force to move along the road...that must contribute to more road noise?

The fuel rating of the Dunlops is low F surly that must contributes to noise because it will require more force to move right

The A3/S3 is not a particularly quiet car where road and tyre noise is concerned.

Tyre size and make are influencing factors.

The make of tyre generally goes with wheel sizes, e.g.; 18's tend to have Conti's, 17's can have Pirelli etc.

Here's a previous thread about which tyres were fitted to which car & wheel size etc.

^However in the last thread linked - the Dunlop Sportmaxx RT produced a A3 that was quieter than a R-R Ghost ;)

I have 225x45 R17 91Y Dunlop Sport MAXX RT tyres on my A3 2.0TDI-184 s-tronic quattro with SE suspension and they are one of the quietest tyres I had on any A3 I owned (9 in all). The tyres I had on my previous A3 (170 SE) were the same size but Hankook S2s and they were also quiet. So much so that if my new A3 had come on anything other than these two types of tyres I would have changed them from new.

What size tyres and what type of suspension do you have because when I have driven other A3s on 18" wheels and tyres and sport suspension they have been noticeably noisier than my 17" ones.

I have A3 S Line converitable 2015...I drove to work today with the music off and it was not bad at all. Tbh I don't think the rear of the car is well Instillate it..because the boot has not instillation only a spare wheel Metal which I feel contributes noise maybe

2015 s Line cab....drove to work today with no music and it was okay.
The The boot is not well n tbh only a spare wheel and bear metal no carpet in the lower boot

I have the same tyres on my 1.4COD Sport saloon with SE suspension and, IMHO, they are very noisy, and the one thing that spoils an otherwise good car.

Maybe I hear the tyre noise because the 1.4COD engine is so quiet compared to your rattly old oil burner, Dave. :whistle2:

I am really thinking of moving to the Goodyears now...had them on my TT and loved them

Sorry but are we saying that the Db rating on tyres has nothing to do with the road noise they make? If we can't use that as a guide then it seems kinda pointless lol

The dB rating is for drive-by tyre noise, not road noise in the cabin.

It's the road surfaces in the UK which seem to be the cause of excessive road noise in the A3. The Golf is the same. I drove my A3 through France, Germany, Italy and Austria and I never experienced road noise anything like as bad as the UK.

I've driven my car (SE suspension) on 3 different tyres:
17" Pirelli Cinturatu dB 71 (driven since new, now down to 5mm)
16" Dunlop Maxx Sport dB 67 (driven at 5mm)
16" Nokian WR D3 dB 73 (driven since new now at 6mm)

The Nokians are far and away the quietest - the difference is noticeable within 100 yards. The Pirelli and Dunlop were pretty much the same.

Ignore the dB rating and go by reviews. Autoexpress often have tyre comparisons.

Update peoples...I have managed to sort the noise the tyres are very good it was the boot. Very poor installation so I dynomated the boot and it's made a real difference.

I will be doing the doors next week

That's good to know...please can you post some pictures of your dynomatting of the boot,

Okay will do...I'll wait until I get the doors done and do it in one go.
Car feels very nice to drive now...was doing 90 on the M1 and the noise was low
