Hey chaps,

been a while since i was on asn, i sold the dtm, bought an rs4, hated it, bought back dtm, sold it, bought some other bits inbetween.

more recently bought an a6 1.8T quattro c5 for a potentially big project, an 8L s3 that i was going to use but broke for parts and couple of days before christmas a B5 1.8tqs

the B5 is going to be my daily driver while i do a bigger project on something else, that said......

having had b6 and b7's i decided i wanted a b5, had to be 1.8T and had to be quattro, scoured ebay / scumtree / trader and there were 3 for sale, 1 orange and 2 black, the black ones were on 165 and 180k :( after a day of considering my options i rang about the orange one to be told it sold hours earlier! doh!

this left the 2 black ones but wasn't happy with the mileage, so i popped a post up on fb asked if there were any for sale around. a few people were tagged, one being a lad called Luke who messaged me who said it wasn't technically for sale but would consider it.

after a brief rundown of mileage etc in my head i'd bought it, i was happy to send deposit then pay balance on collection but Luke wasn't happy to agree sale until i had seen it. a day was arranged that i could pop down (1 hour drive each way) and see it. upon arrival it was raining and very windy so didn't hang around, had a quick look over it, seemed straight so paid him deposit and headed home. in the mean time he started actively searching for a replacement one was found so got the go ahead to return and collect it.

So set off in my mates jetta gti and hit m25 traffic

Made it down south to brighton area, signed the paper work and left, popped into nearby bp to fill up for the return journey

Once home i popped on some rotiform vce i had bought

When i got in i started checking out the box of paperwork he gave me and turns out it was much better thsn i had expected, Luke did a great job on it:

Very recent garret b6 190bhp turbo
Recent clutch
Recent full set of meyle suspension arms
New mtec drilled and grooved discs all round and pads
Recent AP coilovers
Recent turbo back stainless decat system
Recent windscreen
Mot til nov 16
110k loads of history
Recent inner cv's and boots
Rs grill
Recent mats
Recent alpine stereo
Recent service
Bbs lm reps with dunlop tyres, again recently done
Standard wheels included

I even found this laminated in the paperwork, with 2 keys, original handbook and workshop key

Since christmas i've bought the missing door strips, crystal rear clusters, momo wheel, wheel spacers, 19" bbs ch, armrest and poly snub mount

Most of it in post but robbed the stock gearknob from the a6 and removed plate surrounds

Added spacers to rotiforms

Next plans are looking to 06a and dbw conversion to make future power upgrades easier :)

she's very clean mate.

That orange 51 plate was an awesome looking car, but you have some decent upgrades on this one already.

DBW is pretty easy, 06a is neither here nor there as all bolt ons are the same 058 or not

It is pretty clean, i terior is mint too :)

I just prefer the 06a block plus i was given an agu for free so can't complain

Popped in rear clusters last night

longitudinal cars use 06B not 06A. Not entirely sure what the differences are, but i imagine you might find mounting bosses and accessory brackets are different?

Not convinced on those rear lights, too much silver.

i know what you mean but is better if you step back, i have the option of light smoked centers or all red now with these though.

i'm sure the 06a will bolt in fine, i bolted cdl s3 engine in my b7 no problems. i'm trying hard to resist going to town on this though as it's supposed to be my daily while i wait for the real project to start.

Yeh it might well bolt in, however you'll need lots of parts from the longitudinal version to make it work... For example the sump is a completely different shape, as is the oil pickup, the main mounting brackets are likely different, so even if they do bolt onto an 06A you'll still need to source them from an 06B. The accessory brackets are different too, so you'll need those from an 06B as well, possibly with matching 06B accessories.

My point essentially is that you'll end up needing most of the longitudinal engine anyway so all the external stuff works, so why not just start with one?

Passat engine mounts needed and aircon bracket From memory sump too as kev said.then an 06 long block will drop in. Always was tempted but have invested too much time and money in 058 hardware now

I already have sourced all the above for £100, if you can find me and 06b for £100 i'd be suprised

How does the car ride on Ap coilovers I looking for a daily car with loads of suspension travel
