The car is in having its front end re sprayed as the lacquer on the bonnet has bubbled but I noticed the other day that the front wheel arches have started to rust and the paint flaking off in big chunks so having the wings done too

Spoke to the guy doing the respray and he reckons it's the arch lining soaking the lip and the water just seaping in between the metal and paint. I asked if he could suggest anything and he just said not really just one of those things. Carnt complain the car is about 8 years old.

My question is anyone got any suggestions of products I can paint/ use to protect the rear or the front arches to stop water lying and seaping under the paint ?

Or is there nothing I can do apart from accept it ?

Eight years old doesn't seem to be that old to be seeing rust on a modern car.......

I had this with my ibiza so I feel your pain. It's so frustrating to see a car of such little age rust from inside out by the arch liners not doing their job. It completely spoilt my enjoyment of the car.

Once rust is present it's a losing battle of delaying the inevitable. I took the arch liners out on my a3 and cleaned out behind them and applied bilt hamber dynax s50 which is highly rated by the people over at detailing world at protecting against rust.

I believe bilt hamber have some products for dealing with existing rust.

Best of luck

work getting done under the 12year anti corrosion warranty?
neighbour just had his golf gti wings and front skirt done and its 2006

Bilt Hamber do some good anti rust treatments. Try searching for golf front wings rust problems-I'm sure there was something about a pad under the wing liner which was rubbing on the inner wing and causing the problems. Might be the same on yours.

New wings is the solution, in fact the only lasting solution

Apply Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 for metal with remaining minor corrosion, or Electrox primer if completely corrosion free.
