Induction kits what one to get

So VWR600 owners saw a YouTube installation video which lasted 9 minutes - has that been edited or is that a pretty realistic install time ? Looks fairly straight forward.

You can swap out the original for the WVR in 20 minutes with a leccy screwdriver IF you've got the right pliers for the intake hose clip. Can be a ball ache otherwise, and be sure that the hose is fitted properly onto the new intake, 'cos it'll come off if not pushed on far enough (mine did). Best to use something to lubricate the new filter or the inside of the hose first, it makes it much easier.

I've seen the vid you're referring to, and it really is that simple. It must be if a simpleton like me can manage it.

Cheers :racer:

Thanks for that ... sounds like a job for my trusty long nose pliers or mole grips! I'll probably replace the standard clip with a jubilee clip ready for when I sort out an intake hose. Was wondering if I stand a chance of doing it one day in the week during my 30 minute lunch break - will make for a fun drive home then ;o)

Anyone know where the little vacuum hose goes to on the R600 ?

You push it on to the pipe on the rear of the new filter, do you want me to pop out and take a photo?

Just tried to upload a couple, seems to be a problem with the server, I'm getting a general error message saying 'there was a problem uploading your file', with no explanation. It's not the usual one you get if the file's too large. Will try again later. :grinning:

I found it thanks to your first message - thanks for that ;p) - I was looking for it on the base unit.

Made one error disconnected the pipe running over the inlet thinking it was an air hose only to loose a thimble full of pink fluid before I reconnected it sharpish. I presume that's auto trans fluid looks like the tank is on min anyway so may to it up at the weekend.

Right it's on and happy to report not much increased noise over stock but will know more after the drive home this evening. Was quite fiddly getting it under what turned out to be either a trans or power steering pipe at the front.

Also a quick question, I suspect I have fitted it slightly wrong, should the outboard fixing lugs sit on top or below ?

Hah lol thought so - thanks for the confirmation ;o). Need to undo all those screws and adjust it prob best not to do it tonight as missus wasn't too pleased at me disappearing last night but in my defence the in laws are staying with us for half term and we watching some random murder mystery on BBC3. Didn't even know there was a BBC3 !!!

Also prob shouldn't do this sort of thing by the a small LED inspection lamp and iPhone torch.

How you finding it @Rob2k68 ?
I'm hanging fire for the revised REVO one, should go well with the Cantronic!

Hi Batch, was stuck in traffic on way home so not really had an open road to try it out on but hopefully tomorrow I'll go in a bit early ;o). Think it may also take a week for the ECU to adjust and optimise with the map ?? - is this true anyone ?

I was very keen to go for the Revo one myself but became impatient - think it will come out being similar ££ to the VWR600 and thought that at the end of the day there must become a point where the standard filter becomes the bottle neck. On the VW Racing website there's a rolling road run with stock and the R600 looks to be 12-15bhp up on the stock filter when combined with a stage 1 map. Not sure how the Revo intake will compare ??

Cantronic sounds good mate - very well built quality looking units - if I was going the tuning box route this would be my choice too.

Apparently REVO are holding the price the same as their previous version; I LOVE the APR one with the carbon box but bet it is MEGA £££s!
QST reckon any second hand Cantronic box needs a factory reprogramme at a cost of £400 but I can't see why - should be no need for a piggyback to be coded, PLUS can't see how they could lock it into a single ECU given how a box functions?

These are the graphs I was referring to for the R600 intake (taken from the Volkswagen Racing website - note stock refers to stage 1 tune). Driving to work this morning it definitely felt more responsive between 2-3k rpm :-

Do you still have the standard diverter valve? Heard a Golf R a while back with Stage 1 tune and a Forge Recirc valve, sounded stunning compared to the Forge BOV!

Hmmmm....am starting to feel nervous about my impending install of the Forge BOV....not heard from anyone though whose got it that says good/bad so I guess I will just have to see....here's hoping!

I know it sounds odd but I did actually have a Forge BOV for a few weeks and forgot I ever had it..installed it a couple weeks back but took it off after a week or so :/

I just couldn't get it to perform how I expected it to, whether that means what I'm looking for isn't what that valve offers or not I don't know. It 'dumped' a little too often and under very low boost levels it made a bit of an odd sound sometimes..possibly needed tuning with a different strength spring but have left it off for now until I get the opportunity to play with it a little bit but may be looking for the recirculating valve in the future instead.

I would be interested in your thoughts on yours when it's on!

I fitted one to my golf r mk6 took if straight off didn't like it

So with the pano roof slid back yesterday and 20% throttle could definitely hear a hissing noise so presume this is intake noise as never had this before. Can't hear it with roof closed and windows down though. Not sure how much this is going to annoy me .....

Just put the stick one back on couldn't get to grips with the hissing through the pano roof - will probably give the Revo Carbon intake a try when they come out.

Anyone interested in a mint VWR R600 intake soon to be on the classifieds ?

This is odd, I don't notice any real noise difference at all (even driving with the window down) - is most of the turbo noise on these cars not muted by the muffler on the turbo?

I'm not sure any other closed intake would be any quieter, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could confirm either way?

Yeah really bizzare I've checked and double checked for any gaps but the two mouldings are perfectly in contact with one another so no leaks. Also it's silent with the windows open and only with the roof back that I have the issue sounds like my lad slurping up a straw at 20% throttle - must be something wierd to do with where the turbo is and air flow over the roof ?

Think the Revo Carbon one uses the stock air box and filter but is pretty much a less restrictive front ducting from the grille.

If it still happens tomorrow with stock I'll swap them across again. Getting good at this now !

Run it with the top off and see if you get the same sound but louder ?

I could be interested in this if you get rid of it - let me know?

I might be if Batch isn't, let me know how much :)

Drive in this morning with roof back and 3 degrees outside was blooming cold but quiet as I remember it so going to leave the standard box on. Think I only find the slight induction noise irritating as it reminds me of my 4yo slurping from a straw lol .

Was about to put it on the classifieds but just sent Batch a PM and will give the second offer to thebluefox just in the order of the above posts. Good saving on new.

PM'd mate, cheers for the heads up...

Removed the snow grill from my air box defo made a difference think I'll try a pipper cross panel filter next.

A poster on the Golf R forums, has posted dyno graphs of his stock G7R, with and without Revo intake.

The Revo intake was approx 10bhp down on power compared to standard box!

(Same car, same dyno, same fuel)

Thanks for the info V8 - £300+ notes well spent then - NOT !

What tune was the G7R running ?

It was stock when measuring with and without Revo intake.

But then went on to measure DTUK 1+3 and 2+3.

R600 is the way forward if you want a good intake/air box!

Just regarding the BOV. If your drive an auto, it won't make the dump noise when changing gear as the throttle is still open when changing gear on an auto. You'll only get it when lifting off the throttle.
