So.....
Come home to find a fixed penalty notice behind the door, luckily not for spending. It was for crossing the dartford crossing and not paying back in July.

A rattling of my head and I realise I wasn't down that way on the date & time in question. Look into the picture and it shows a 5door s3, mine is 3door and different alloys.

Looks like my car been cloned!

Called dartford and they said I have to call the police. Call them and they say I have to call dartford and appeal it as the 'policy' on cloning has changed recently and dartford crossing will register the offence. Somehow I don't believe that. So tomorrow I will be sending emails and making calls to my local police authority, dvla and dartford crossing.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long ordeal. I've started noting times of calls and what was said etc. Luckily the reg on the car at the times as private and is now taken off as I was/am planning on selling the car. So hopefully shouldn't get any more in the post.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Ps just goes to show the newer anpr cameras are a waste of time!

Don't want to worry you but a friend got a speeding ticket from a cloned car.
He had a lot of hassle with the local police involved . He was a serving PC in the Met, and was on duty at the time !
He got it wiped in the end , but they did mot believe him .
Hope you get it sorted...

When I spoke to dartford crossing guys. He said he can see on the picture it's a 5 doors so I'm just going to send a copy of info for my car and he said will be dropped. Only issue is the v5 now has a std plate allocation. So will have to get some kind of note from the dvla.

This happened to me a while back. Whilst that car is driving around it is a potential problem for you so be very careful and record everything. Soz to be so dull

Wouldn't bother me.
I would explain once. Then if they wanted to pursue it and take me to court, I am sure the magistrates would be thrilled when you explain it's not your car in the picture.

Slightly more worrying is that the other car is almost certainly stolen and have seen your car to copy the plate.

After a few quiet years, it seems car crime is increasing again.

Hi. I had exactly the same earlier this year with a clone of my old S3 on the A1. I phoned the number on the penalty notice and spoke to the case handler in the police. They asked me to write everything up and post to them. Where I was at the time, where the car was, who I was with, could they confirm, did I have any visa or card transactions posted at a similar time to the offence eg fuel etc. I put it all in writing and sent recorded delivery so no excuses about not receiving it. And I never heard anything again other than a phone call where they said they believed me.

My scenario also happened when the car was advertised on auto trader. My big lesson was no number plates visible on the adverts.

Good luck

Jaime

Off-topic but thanks @khoughton88 - you just reminded me I didn't pay for a Dartford crossing I made 3 weeks ago! Fortunately they're system is awful so they can never find my car on their system, though I pay just to be safe.

That the thing my car was in auto trader with reg showing so it obviously a stolen car and someone searched on auto trader and found a car the same. Idiots can't count though as the number of doors don't match.

Only concerlation like I said is that it was private reg and I've out the car back into MY15 now as planing on selling.

I'm going to send all Info to dartford. I've registered with my local police and they were really helpful made a log and put a marker on the plate. Just need to call them with my vin number now. Kent police however were compltely useless!!! They just said happens all time deal with it virtually.

Ps the offence was in July so it taken them nearly 4 months for dartford to chase it up.

Thanks for input everyone.
