Hi
I have the opportunity to upgrade my 07 plate dsg 170 tdi to a 11 320d auto in the new year.

Does anyone have experience of the auto 320d? From what I have read the auto is not the best for remapping but decent tuners can set the torque limits within gear to help prolong the auto box life?

Has anyone driven both? ......Would this be a good upgrade?

Obviously the BMW is a newer car and this one has leather seats which is an upgrade from my cloth numbers, im put off by the fact the auto box maybe does not take to maps to well and the fact the dash design is something out of the 90's.

Any advice is appreciated

Not sure how long you've had the Audi but they are the best interiors in the world...when I sit in other people's BMWs I can't stand the interior.

It's rear wheel drive which is never a good thing in our country.

The BMW auto box isn't a twin-clutch jobby so no doubt you could make some Yorkshire tea and drink it between gear changes.

BMW does drive more sporty, so if that's what you're looking for then the suspension and body setup is stiffer, especially in m-sport spec.

Unless your car is manual and you really want the auto box, I'd stick with he A3 and perhaps consider some OEM retrofits to get it to the spec you'd like.

@NHN would be your man for that...before I let him lose on my car I considered selling my A3 and buying another in the full spec I wanted...

Thank for response,
I have had this A3 (dsg 170) for 3 years and a manual bkd before that for 5 years.

The interiors are leagues aprart lol!!

The 320 is actually my old mans .... he is upgrading so his will be up for offer...probably at a good price and I will obviously know the history of the car.

I think I may ask him for an extended test drive and then make the decision.

Its the BMW auto box that puts me off... I realise they are not twin clutch but and from reading they sometimes develop issues from remapping at they are at the limit with the extra torque!

And its an m sport spec!......Mind is saying upgrade to the newer less milage car.........heart is staying stick with the a3 and get it remaped

Go for the BMW if it is a bargain. At least you'll scratch that itch, then come back to Audi later and report back to us.

Mate if your A3 is a DSG it's a no brainer for me.

The poor gear changes from the BMW box will reveal itself during an extended drive and I reckon that'll put you off straight away.
