See if you are affected by the emissions scandal...

Apparently the fix will not involve a formal recall, as under the UK's code of practice, a recall happens "when a defect is identified that... could result in serious injury”.

As the emissions cheating software does not affect the cars’ roadworthiness, this code would not apply.

Drivers are under no obligation to send the vehicles back to VW dealerships to get them modified, according to the Department for Transport.

"If a driver didn't return the vehicle, that wouldn't be illegal," a DfT spokesman said, although he added that failure to do so could affect any warranty on the car as well as its resale value.

Motorists would not be fined if their cars weren't fixed, "but it is in their interest to do it".

I stand corrected then :)

Lucky for the owners of the affected vehicles!!

Personally if i had a car that was affected I wouldn't bother unless I had to in order to claim compensation

Otherwise I don't see the point in wasting my time taking it to be detuned then mapped again!!

So is it a software upgrade? Or do they remove hardware?

My car is remapped, will they be taken off or affected?

My guess is that Audi are going to write a new map and flash the ECU. So your map will be over written by the new software. Not sure if it will be a mandatory trip to Audi when this is underway or you'll be able to choose to decline.... guess we'll have to wait and see what they are offering.

Can't see compensation being viable for a 2nd hand owner like me with a car 6-years old next February and 70K on the clock. If the feedback from this "patch" is not favourable, I will simply ignore it and claim I received no notifications. My car (A3 Sportback CR 2.0 TDI 170) runs great, gives great economy and has never given an ounce of problem or winked its DPF light at me. For people who have had a "remap", at this early stage I can't see it being appropriate to visit an Audi dealer for the patch - you have already altered the OE map and presumably chosen performance over economy/emissions. I just can't see that the "patch" could be properly applied to a remapped ECU. No doubt further bulletins from Audi UK will throw a little more light on the matter.
