Mk1 A3 - Race Car Build Thread

At the moment, I'll to be going with the reccomended setup from OBP of a .625 to the front, .7 to the rear and .75 to the clutch but like you say I anticipate a bit of trial and error.

Good work mate. Can't wait to see this on track!

Are those cylinder suggestions generic? Or based on piston sizes for your chosen fronts and rears?

I'm really interested to see how it works out and how the car stops compared to something like mine that's got similar calipers but is 'regularly' plumbed in.

They're the starting point that OBP generally supply for most race cars, based on a large upgraded multiple piston front caliper and a standard smaller rear.

I know of a Corrado up here with the same (ish) setup who has recently changed cylinders and found it to be better, though I don't know what he changed from/to. It'll be a case of suck it and see I guess.

As I said earlier in the thread: the next time I drive it will be a bit of an eye opener, and probably a fair learning curve! Or maybe it'll work perfectly.... Hmm.

Have you done your brake setup yet? Any testing done?

Unfortunately not, been busy recently! Got a job at a place called HQ Garage, we have a 4WD Rolling road, run a Time Attack Evo (just won Club Pro Class this year) and do a lot of performance tuning, so it's a pretty awesome place to work:

That, and other things have been getting in the way, new job meant moving, so moved out of my parents place and we bought our first house:

Hopefully make some progress with the car over winter!

Awesome love the look of your job. And you have a home for the Audi too.

Wait for a few weeks Il take a pic that will make you laugh.

Great news on the house and new job mate, looks like a handy place to work ;)

Looking forward to seeing some progress on this over winter :)

Funny you should resurrect this thread today!

It was stripped, all the parts were sold and the shell went away to its new owner just yesterday!:blownose:

The end of a chapter really, but as ever there's always another chapter. I've bought a 'cheap and cheerful' Clio, which will hopefully be plenty cheerful but is already not cheap.

I think the problem with the Audi was that I had made it such a big project that it felt like it would never be finished. There was just so many things to do all at once, and it was so far away from ever being useable that I lost interest. The plan for the Clio is to never have it immobilised, so that I can use it whenever I feel like it, so far that plan is working well, but it's about to go for a cage and that's when things could get out of hand...

Sad to see, but this is all too often the case.

Without wishing to be rude, people often take on far too big a task, then when it takes forever, they realise they've taken on something too big and it never gets finished.

That's why I've always tried to keep mine as a rolling project, tackling one job at a time, and making sure I get some enjoyment from it between the stints of extreme hard work.

I have no idea how anyone can keep motivation up for a 3+ year project, throwing thousands at it without getting anything back until the very end!

Still good to see you're still playing with cars though, and the clio looks like a whole load of cheap fun from what I've seen on facebook :racer:

Sad to see this, but as mentioned above, all very understandable. Best of luck with the new project :)

Hope you enjoyed test-driving mine :D
