I very much love my S5 but got a bit of an itch to look at either an S6 (Saloon or Avant - although the latter are nearly as rare as hens teeth used) and then got to looking at the S8.

Seems to offer a lot bang for your money, particularly used, thinking of either a 2013 or 2014 one. Anything to watch out for? Downsides are most don't seem to come with Adaptive Cruise which I like on the S5 and the tech seems about the same as on my S5, whereas the S6 has the Phone Box/4G data. Neither of those are deal breakers. Do the matrix LEDs come as standard on 2014 models but not 2013 ones?

Is the V8T on the S8 the same as the S6/RS6 motor in an in-between tune? Presumably reasonably reliable?

What's the rear space and boot like, with a kid in a child seat in mind?

Any experience of the A or S8 much appreciated.

you can get even more for less if you go for W12. Better equipped in standard then S8 and as a used one much cheaper with same/similar power....just a thought

Hmm, interesting, I hadn't considered that, a quick look on AutoTrader turned up this example, that's a lot of car for the money. Frankly the options listed are almost slightly scary and I'm pretty sure I would actually lose my toddler back there!

Are all the W12's long wheel base?

Thats serious depreciation, How much more is it going to lose in the next few years ? .
Very nice car but only 4 seats ? expensive to run though £500 a year tax and probably sub 20mpg

Yep, some proper depreciation there! I doubt that there's that much more to fall (per year at least) some 2011 ones without as much kit still retail for just over £39k.

The W12 is LWB only and is probably a bit too much car, if that is such a thing! :)

Don't know if all W12 were LWB but for sure you can get 5 seat version. I mentioned W12 as I know it will be much cheaper then S8 as it looses value quickest of all A8 versions. Every year it will be cheaper but the depreciation per year will be closer to other versions every year.

Considering the length, I have A8 D3 SWB. It is 5.06m in length and LWB was 5.19m so it was just 13cm difference. I guess in current model difference would be similar. If you can live with 5.06m you will service 5.19m as well;-) Parking is a bit tricky though, but again with all those parking sensors and cameras not as hard as you could imagine.
