Evening folks

Can anyone tell me the difference from a s-tronic gearbox and a tiptronic gearbox from looking at it as i am bit puzzled or can anyone tell s-tronic gearbox codes i have A4 2009 TFSI and was told it was a s-tronic when bought just had gearbox oil changed and they tell me i have tiptronic :wtf:

Tip is a 6 speed & stronic uses a 7 speed, do some searching on google or the like, plenty of same questions asked there, also just ask if yours is 6 or 7 speed, stronic afaik has always been 7 speed.
 
Tiptronic is a conventional automatic gearbox, S-Tronic is a twin-clutch automated manual gearbox (still classed as an automatic).
S-Tronic replaced DSG (direct shift gearbox) which was first introduced in the Mk1 TT 3.2, and uses one clutch for even gears and another for odd.

I believe the term DSG is still used in VW vehicles whislt Audi marketing considered Stronic to sound more exec and thus command a higher premium :)

Stronic is in effect an "auto clutch" manual gearbox, with some electronic self shifting. It features simultaneous disengage of a gear whilst engaging the next - via the mentioend dual clutches.
Tiptronic is an auto shift with torque converter etc. yet with ability to shift up or down a gear at driver request.

I believe DSG or "Stronic" boxes have been offered in both 6 and 7 speed variants, though perhaps not on all models?
 
As the last to really. Tiptronic is the name for a CVT box that can be manually changed whereas S-tronic is the Audi name for VWs DSG and is described very well above. If your A4 is 2009- it will be S-Tronic As 08-09 is when they finally brought S-tronic to the A4. You can also tell from the gear selector as well as they are very different in appearance in the A4 (though of course not fool proof method).

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is known as Multitronic, and is vastly different to Tiptronic, and S-tronic. There is no physical change of gear, because it is a chain that slides between two cones, so fundamentally has no gears. It does however have a number of pre-programmed gears that you can change into manually using the gear lever or paddles behind the steering wheel.
 
So... NGU code is for an S-tronic gearbox, right?
I saw an A4 Quattro with this NGU gearbox.
VIN decoder says it is a 7 speed box but I'm not sure if it is the tiptronic or S-tronic DQ500.
 
Surely, Tiptronic is the licensed trademark for Porsche's original system that adds a sequential manual mode to automatic transmissions, controlled either by the shift lever or, if fitted, paddles as well. In that context, Tiptronic isn't the name of any Audi autobox, it's an operational mode available on all of them. I've had traditional torque-convertor ZF boxes, a Multitronic CVT and now have an S-Tronic. All of them have a Tiptronic mode.

I know the differences between the two gearboxes.
I rephrase.
Does the NGU gearbox has torque converter or is a dual clutch?
