Crashed my car a week ago and now I am looking for parts to build a 2009 edition out of my 2007.
After the garage came back with a £4200 pound bill for this crash my insurance decided to write it off.

I am waiting for an offer for this 07 92k miles car and I will buy it back and fix it myself.
So I have decided to get a 2009 s line front for my sport Tdi.
Can someone tell me what I need and where is the best place to get the parts.

Thanks a lot for your help

Not sure where the £4200 quote comes from. I'd be looking for second opinion and not having a Cat D. Unless there is a lot of other damage underneath or elsewhere.

There is a guide on here for the facelift somewhere.

Document everything you do (photos etc) so when you sell the buyer has a good knowledge of how it was repaired after write off.

I had a similar looking prang less than two months after I got my 2007 A3, but luckily my front bumper wasn't cracked and the (awful) bodyshop were able to repair it. My bill came to around £2,500 due to the fact that the reinforcing bar had bent inwards into the radiator sections, which needed replacing. Quite sure bodyshops take insurance jobs for a ride, but your bill seems particularly steep, even with the need for a new bumper and grill!

But I'm interested in this thread because I was also looking at getting an S-Line front for mine :)

Cannot be anything behind it, I had a mate who is a mechanic have a look at the car and the radio is half inch an inch away from the engine. This crash happened in a round about at 25-30 mph. As I applied brakes the nose of mine went down and the car in front was a high rear bumper Mondeo and my car wen under his bumper. So the crash bar behind the number plate was not even touched. It's just the top side of the bumper pushed in with the slam panel and radiator and bonnet.

I had a prang last year in my old Seat Leon. Went through the category C business.
I found it helpful to have the full breakdown of the quote. And a conversation with the assessor. I got a lot of useful information from that which really helped me when I sorted out the following rebuilt, following the buying back of the car.
Expect them to take the pi55 with the first offer. By knowing the value of my car then I managed to get them to increase the offer by 50%. Which in part shows how much urine they were extracting with their first offer.

I'd be looking to just replace the bonnet and get an S line front bumper. The headlights and wings look fine? Don't see the point in forking out so much money for a facelift conversion. However, that's just my opinion.

Okay rang admiral for the estimate and the ****** DVLA is closed so they could not arrange a conference call to check my licence.
Any idea what value shell i fight for? I know i should push them as far as i can but i am hoping for a payout of £4k and the car back or worst £3.5k and the car back. I have checked flebay and we can achive the conversion with £1.5k so the rest is for the new baby who is due in just 2-3 weeks :D
Also i checked salvage estimate £700.
What is really annoying is that i have spent £7.5k on this baby 16 months ago.

You need all 2008-2012 parts

Front panel complete with headlight holders
crash bar
bonnet
front bumper
Grill
new headlights
possibly hinges (I didn't change mine, but I may do soon as some people say you should)
wings (With no indicators)
Led side mirrors (these might be plug and play after a simple code in if your mirrors are power folding, if not, you will either have to get the newer module, which is hard to find. I just wired it up from the indicator wire in the wing, to pin 13 in the new side mirror plug)
Side skirts (If you're going for an s3/rs3 look)
rear led's (you will have to get the LED adapters off Ebay, they're from Germany or Kufatec (they're between £38-50)
Rear S line spoiler
Gloss black B pillar trims (But not necessary)
rear bumper or just diffuser, or just leave it (depending on whether you want to do S3 or RS3)
then Wheels

Then coding for headlights and rear lights
Then you're done

Do your research on value using reputable guides. It was Admiral I dealt with. Not sure if they are any worse than others, but they were urine extractors to the full.

Speak to the garage and the assessor as much as you can. I got some useful information that way (e.g. the garage had been told a value by Admiral that they wouldn't repair on, which was 65-70% of their value of the car, which was significantly different to their take the urine offer).

The best tactic I used was to ask them their process by which they pulled together their figure. Not get bogged down in an argument on value immediately. How did they derive the figure they offered? Outline to me where/how you have pulled that together. Their thinking, calculation. Prove to me your workings matched up to the bs you said when you offer a fair value for the car.

So when they said they got some information from industry information, I already had sufficient from Parkers to rip them to shreads. The more they said when trying to answer these questions the more it became clear the offer did was not in line with a reasonable value. It took patience but you are generally not dealing with intelligent people, so a methodical, evidence based and persistent approach is likely to be more successful. In my experience.

Okay so got in touch with them today.
They asked me how much did i pay and how much i think it was worth at the time of accident.
So i said i bought it for 7.5k and was offered 5.5k to part exchange it, a couple of weeks which i nearly did.
Now they have told me that i need to wait until i get an offer.

One thing made me worry is that they also said that this case was passed to underwriting company or department as : "possible modifications".
Now i do not have any modification or i have not done anything to it. The badges from the back where removed A3 and 2.0Tdi as they where in the way of the polishing procedure.
Also in the lower front grill there are some LED drl lights "strips" but i have bought the car with these fitted , and one side is burned out.

Do you think this is an issue and they wont pay???

Thanks

Unfortunately I've had to deal with quite a lot of insurance companies recently due to a bike accident and all I can say is good luck. That being said as your 'modifications' aren't performance based and don't affect the handling/braking of the car in anyway I can't imagine them being a problem for you. Badges can fall of so I don't think they'd even comment on them. If anything the lights would aid you to be seen during the day, making you more visible and hopefully less likely for an accident, although it's still classed as a modification.

I've also found out that if something was added to your car as a factory optional extra such as alloys that aren't on a 'base model' then you might not actually be insured for them either as insurance companies only pay for whats on the base model.

For example if you buy a bog standard A3/S3 and you pay the optional extra of Akraprovic exhaust, wheels or something along those lines then some insurance companies don't cover the cost for those.
