Morning all.

I know this is a bit of saw point for people to talk about. I just wondered what people are willing to pay / regard as a good deal.

After a test drive in a RS3 the other day I was very interested in one. However, after the salesman had sent a quote though, I was pretty shocked that he wanted £5k deposit and £675 pcm for a pretty low/mid spec car!

All opinions welcome:sunglasses:

Depends on the total price of the car and over how many years you take it. 44k car over 4 years and 4k deposit is roughly £520 a month

It was about 44/45k car and was over 48 months! I thought it seemed over priced!!

I will contact another dealer. Thanks.

We’ve gone for a lease purchase on ours but there was a big difference between what the salesman initially quoted and what we’ve now got through the dealer's finance specialist.

Go to http://www.audi.co.uk/content/audi/explore-models/finance-calculator.html#/calculator?range=A3&model=RS 3 Sportback&trim=SE&modelCode=8VARSY\1&productType=SOLUTIONS
The important number is the Optional final payment. I.E. over 36 months at 10000miles it's £23,794.65.
The optional final payment will not change regards options added etc. it is always worked out on the base price of the car. If you change the mileage amount or the term amount, the optional final payment adjusts. Always use this number as it is accurate.

Now head over to
http://www.pcpcal.co.uk/
You have the final optional payment number so add that in to the correct box.
Now go on the configerator and spec your car and then add the on the road price to the top box.
Now add your deposit you want to pay.
Annual percentage rate of interest - your safe putting 6.4% in there to give you a rough idea.
The Repayment months should tally with the Optional payment, so if you enter the optional for 36 months, add 36 months here and then press calculate.

You can now start playing around with repayment months and optional final payments vs spec and price vs deposit. You should get some pretty accurate numbers which your dealer should be able to work with. Obviously all these figures don't include discounts negotiated or trade in etc.

Hope that helps. It is possible with £4k down to get a mid level spec'd RS3 for £580ish.

The dealers trying to bend you over with those figures, as someone said low to mid 5s might be doable with a 4k deposit

My cars spec'd to about £51k, and with £8k in it's working out low £500's.

Don't know if it's good or bad but I'm happy with the deal I got!

Did the dealer try 36 months? When I asked 36 was better than 48 months. Get them to alter and try it.

Don't forget the dealer can adjust the GFV up to 12% plus or minus. This allows the finance manager to tailor a deal to a particular customer. When I purchased my S3, they showed me the finance quote screen and the GFV was adjustable to get the car in to my budget (or as best as possible).

Also if you are "renewing" an Audi finance agreement (effectively buying another Audi on PCP) the dealer will get a renewal finance commission.

Not sure how much that commission is but it was £1,600 on a £35k S3 in 2014. It allowed the dealer to knock another £1,000 off my deal.

Use the word "renewal" and watch them get uncomfortable. It's their internal language that us "punters" shouldn't know about it.

Used that trick about 5 times with VW/Audi purchases in last few years! :)

Originally when I was enquiring about pcp I went a different route as I wanted my monthly payments to be low!
Now actually decided to buy the car outright when it comes in jan/feb (so i've been told)
My PCP figures I got given were
£20k deposit for £250 p/month over 4years. 12k miles per year . £20k balloon payment. Car was specced to £47k

Spec:
Catalunya red, Dynamic Pack, Comfort & Sound pack, RS3 Design Pack, high Gloss black pack.

£4k deposit
15k miles PA
£560/month roughly
£1500 discount

I'm happy with that... As rightly said the GMFV is the key number and this is determined by miles and duration of agreement

That's a way better deal than I got quoted! I know I didn't negotiate but it was miles off!

What dealerships are offering some discount?

I would only do about 6/7k miles per annum. Also would put a smaller deposit down more like £2k!

Spec: Glacier white, Gloss black styling package, Body coloured wing mirrors (electric, heated / folding), Reversing camera, Hill hold, Light and rain sensor package, High beam assist, Privacy glass, Advanced key, 19" Titanium Matt wheels

Mine works out as follows:

£6,000 deposit
5k miles PA
£464 per month
48 months
No discount ;-(

If only I could/would ever have that kind of money in the bank, you Guys are very fortunate and must be in the minority, not sure why you would post on a PCP thread though as clearly if the OP had a spare £50k he wouldn't have asked for our opinions ?

The thread for me has been very useful in gauging how well my dealer treats me :)

Hi Spin,
Lucky yes, probably as a result of many years avoiding PCPs. I do understand it is one way of financing a car but the real costs can be huge.
They are a form of finance that focuses on how much a month can you afford rather than true costs. 1. What discount can I get, 2. What options do I really need and how will they impact on sale value. 3. Get a good price at the end of 2/3 years. Complex but not rocket science. Also Halifax have some loans that look good if you need some funding. My last post was meant very tongue in cheek

It's amazing what dealers can do at the end of the month/quarter with only a few days to go. Mines 43k ish. £0 down £598 a month 48 months 8k. I was a renewing customer so got a good trade in too on a 14 month old a3 s-line as @Pulp84 said

Hi Guys,

I would really love an RS3. The noise that harks back to the original 5-pot Turbo Audi quattros just stirs the senses and reminds me of those glorious rally years that I used to watch on the TV in the 80's.

But...sadly I don't have a spare 50K in the bank either. If only. Or even better, what about 100K, 200K?....there's always someone who has more. But that's just life.

So back to my reality...

I've never had a PCP deal before, so supposing I find a nearly new RS3 for say £40K. I go in with a 2K deposit, part-ex my S3 8P for about 7K. In the handy calculator (www.pcpal.co.uk) I had to put in a final payment/GMFV of £21323 (taken from the Audi Finance calculator), 6.7%APR and over 48 months. That comes to an affordable £329.42 per month (if the calculator is correct)..

Wind the clock forward, after 4 years of happy awesome motoring in the RS3. I know I will have three options:
a) buy it
b) hand it back (walk away with nothing)
c) trade in on a new PCP deal.

Assuming I trade in back at Audi, and enter a new deal on the next car, do I have any "deposit" or "value" in the car to enter a new deal? What would that be roughly?

I'm guessing over the 4 years I'll have to put aside some money as well for a deposit into the next PCP agreement.

Sorry for the noddy question, just never looked at PCP before.

Cheers

AL

Have to remember if it used then you will be on a used car pcp generally the intrest rate is a lot higher and the gmfv lower so using the Audi finance for a guide is misleading bud. With discount on a new car if you kept spec sensible you'd prob be able to order new one with a couple grand of options for same price as a used one

At the end it depend on what it's worth if it's worth 25k and final payment is 20k you have 5k deposit on the next one but could begin her or much lower. No one has an accurate crystal ball

Also your dealer will be hounding you after 2 years or so to trade in for a new one as soon as you have some equity in the car.
