My 18 in tyres are now down to 3.5-4mm and I'm thinking what next.

Currently running the standard Continental that seem OK but have seen that Costco are selling 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 for £342 all in after a £50 reduction from Michelin.

Anyone on here any experience of 18in Michelins on an 8V ... Had PS2 on 8P which were great!

Lots of threads on this search "tyre" and "Michelin"

Thanks... I was hoping for some analytical comparisons, noise, handling , wear, grip etc.. I think there are many criticisms of Continental, mine have been OK but seem less grippy than when new, although maybe I'm driving quicker!!

At £85 per corner, fitted and balanced what is there to argue about, they are a better tyre than the Conti's. I had them on my 18" Mk3 Focus and coming from Conti with shocking tramlining they were a godsend. Dam good grip in the wet as well....

I'm going to stick some Michelin PSS on mine within a day of receiving my new car. Continentals are diabolical.

Likewise, when my Conti's need replacing, it's Michelin Pilot Super Sports for me also. Fitted a set of those to my Evo X and they were absolutrely brilliant - and price difference not a lot from PS3's.

I actually got a better deal than CostCo when I fitted mine from ATS - whilst they have deals online, it's also worth giving them a call, just so happened that I dropped in on the way to CostCo, asked them how much for 4 and got them about £6 each cheaper than CostCo. Not saying taht will always happen as they tend to vary their deals, but if you don't ask and all that :)

Getting back to the Michelin PSS - nice and quiet, grip was excellent wet or dry, and got good economy as well. Top tyre.

Mine isn't an 8V,but I've tried most of the decent tyres in this size, and the PSS is the best everyday tyre I've had.

Good wet and dry grip, good progression in wet or icy conditions, and very decent tyre life, even on my car.
Highly recommended.

I've got 225/40/18 Michelin PS3s on my other car and I'm very impressed with them. Very grippy in both wet and dry, plus nice and quiet too.

Lots of info on here but not many pictures. When I need to change mine as well as handling/fuel/noise considerations they also need to have a rim protector at least as good as the OEM Conti's.

You could always look at the individual makers websites!

I just replaced the conti's on my S3 as they were rubbish and noisy and went off with 3mm left!

I wanted Mich Pilot Super Sports as I had them on the TTRS and were excellent but it seems on the 18" size S3 they MPSS are as rare as rocking horse S&*t!!

Had to get PS3's and they are MUCH better than conti's and quieter too! Go for PSS if you can order them in time ( I had a puncture) if not PS3's are great.

If I could guarantee that the wheels wouldn't get marked I'd do the exact same thing!
Conti's are awful!!! Either PS2's or PSS's all day for me!

I found Audi did a decent job of changing the hoops on my last A3.

Torn between Eagle asymmetric and the Michelin PS's when it comes time to change. Saw some Eagles on a Mini JCW in the week and they looked very purposeful indeed !!

It's hard to look past the Michelin Super Sports when looking for quality tyres. The reviews seem pretty consistent wherever you look and users seem to be far more satisfied with them over there Contis, Bridgestones etc. Don't know why that's the case, what's so special about them, but there you go....

Have a look at these reviews

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Michelin/Pilot-Super-Sport.htm

And then compare them to the reviews for the Contis and others. There's a marked difference.

I must be odd, I find the Contis perfectly fine!
Had MPSS on my M135i, found them to be better than the contis but not so good in the wet...

Each to their own. The PS3's on my A4 with 2mm left are better than my Conti's on the S3 which have only done 2k.
Would only consider goodyear eagle ays as an alternative.
I've had PS2's on every car since 2008 when I bought my first Leon, they were on it when I bought it and I've never looked back.
I think, if my memory serves me correctly, I've bought 32 in total!
Possibly why I'm starting to look more and more like the Michelin man with every purchase!! LOL!

Personal choice is Pirelli p zero's

Those are quite possibly the sh1tt3st tyres I've ever had the misfortune of having on my car. Like driving on treacle in the wet.

Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's - Best tyres IMO.

Again it's individual taste, I've p zero's on an f355 berlinetta, s4 and an rs4, now on the s3, I find they provide plenty of grip in different road conditions and they seem to last for a decent length of time

lol is there anything Costco don't sell??? Happy to see that price for 4 new tyres! Who said owning a performance car was expensive?!?! :)

I'm on Eagle F1s atm, and they're good, much quieter than the contis and decent grip. Better rim protector too (though the design of the alloys makes them hard to protect).

I love it on the Costco web page it says fitted by City & Guilds qualified staff - don't think I'd be getting mine fitted there !

lol I know where you are coming from, but tbh it's still a 2.5 day course (looked it up) and that's more training than I have fitting tyres so!!!!

I was recently driving through Glasgow, whilst waiting at some lights I looked over and saw a guy fitting tyres out of the end of a shipping container! All he had to cover him and his wheel/tyre machine was a bit of corrugated plastic above and some wooden boards to the right and behind, all the front was open! I thought "God bet he gets cold in the winter" :)

You're right of course I wouldn't know where to start !! - was just how they worded it that tickled me.

As for the bloke in the container wonder what his business address is ??? Wouldn't like to be him taking a knock on his hands would send him through the roof of that container !!!
