S3 Launch Control

After being out for a wee spin with @elpaulio on Friday i decided it was time to launch the car with the wife as a passenger :) She has a heart condition so probably wasn't a great idea but she lived and all is well. Her brief review was something along the lines of "holy sh1t, what a noise, that was a bit scary, lets not do that again"

Si :)

P.S thanks to Paul for letting me experience it from the passenger seat :)

Love it mate!!

Exactly the reaction I'm likely to get from mine. Can't wait to try it out......... ;)

Always nice to meet up with like minded people and talk car pish lol :lick:
Even if it did attract the attention of a strange gentleman with a thing for exhausts :undwech:

Had a play with mine the other week and did a couple of launches.....I was concentrating that hard on what I was doing and by the time I had slowed down and stopped I missed what was really happening. I need to be a passenger next time.

Does anyone know if it is better to launch with the TC off or in Sport?

I have only ever done it in the dry with the TC off...

Its a whole new experience as a passenger :) . @elpaulio has a DTUK box which obviously made it faster in his car but when i did it as a driver in my car it felt noticeably slower. I'm assuming some of the difference is due to the feeling of control though.

I've only done it twice but both times TC has been in sport.

It works better with ESC fully off rather than in sport as this locks the haldex clutch and therefore reduces wheelspin.

The tc has to be turned off to use launch control otherwise it doesn't hold the revs it just wants to set off.

I must've been turning mine off without realising then. Thought it was on, sport or off.

It works in sport mode but take off is noticeably better when u have it fully off :)

I've only tried it once in the S3 so far and I had the ESC fully off. It was a cold day so it left 4 nice tyres marks on the road where I launched :)

Hi everyone
I've been reading threads on here and decided to try the Holy Grail of Launch Control... I gotta say - and I've checked on a slow mo video app - I think my car just clocked a 4.01 second 0-60 time. I'm absolutely stunned !

I'm going to put it on Instagram later, I'll use #s3launchcontrolsprint if you want to view and comment on it.

Good fun isn't it?
That'll be indicated speed though, it would be (very slightly) slower with a Vbox or similar.
Fair play though, it's still quick.

Going to have another go next week. I have 2 dash cams I'll set one of them to video me, as I posted earlier the whole thing went that quickly I missed it......:tennis:

I watched the video. Very impressive! Is it stock? What fuel do you use?

Just watched the video, did you hold the accelerator to the floor before you launched? Doesn't look like it but it's hard to tell.

I didn't hold it right down as it did not want to rev that much. It was a muted Rev too but didn't half pin us back in our seats once we were off the break

Yeah, launch looks well quick. You should try it again with Super Unleaded and the pedal pinned, with another video too please ;)

Should be even quicker if you leave it in S rather than using manual.

Totally stock mate - I'm undecided about going Stage 1 due to potential warrantee issues. Fuel is BP standard unleaded

You can always get a tuning box if losing the warranty is a concern for you.

I am willing to take the risk and will tune it as soon as I have driven the car for around 1000 miles.

I'm just happy knowing I can **** most cars on the road if need be... love seeing Porsche drivers scratching their heads and the righteous BMW drivers fading into the distance in my rear view mirror

I've been looking. Have spoken to DMS about a custom remap where the majority of the increased power is only delivered when in full dynamic mode. The APR remap is an option too... I have AMD who are relatively local to me

....well that's gonna naff off a few of the 'tuners' out there!!

4 secs is pretty much a stage 1 remap time ;) Here's hoping mine will be one of these new super builds :)

(maybe Tesco are sticking some nitrous in their BP standard!)

It's pretty much the correct 0- 60. The 4.8 seconds stated by Audi is 0 - 62.

0 - 60 is around 4.2 - 4.3 which is what he probably would of got if he used a v-box or VCDS. Trying to record a time with a video doesn't really work well.

Stage 1 will see around 3.8 to 4.0

All very quick times mind you wheat her stage 1 or not.

You can just search the hashtag... no need for membership

My son just showed me on his account.

Yeah wow, that that rev needle was flicking back and forth like a nodding dog on steroids!! ;)

Yeah I couldn't find it, ended up searching your user name and found it :) mate turn your esc completely off, stick the gearbox in S and floor the accelerator and it will be quicker! You don't need to worry about revving to much - as long as it's warmed up it will be ok - it's an auto gear box it won't over Rev ;)
