Hi all I'm thinking about fitting a oil catch can to minimize the build up of oil in my boost pipes. Had anyone done this or is it pointless and if anyone has what's your experiences been thanks .

Anymore info on this? Is it worth doing? A mate has just done the "elephant mod", but I'd prefer to do it properly via a catch can. Is it worth while?
Mine still in me boot all boxed up, spare time is a very rare thing these days lol, meant to make a pretty good job once fitted though
I did fit mine the other week actually but only had enough pipe to vent to the bottom of the car with a small cone filter, but at idle I could smell the fumes so removed it until I get an additional longer hose to feed back to the intake and complete the loop properly
I read somewhere on another post someone mentioning that the oil vapour currently going to the intake pipe is good to lubricate the turbo http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/diesel-catch-can.220518/ ... Any truth in this?

That was me, I can't back it up with science and examples.
But it's something that alway pops into my head.
Googling it there seems to be a lot of people who have completed the "elephant mod" or added a catch can, and I'm yet to see anyone experience any problems.
I am looking to do this also, prompted partly because I have an oil leak! Top places for the leak seem to be the turbo to intercooler hose seal, rocker cover gasket, oil cap gasket or tandem pump gaskets so I am going to replace all of those in the next week and measure up pipe lengths and diameters in preparation for adding a catch can.
I don't want to loop the air back in to the intake but I am a bit stuck as to keep the hot oil fumes away from getting in to the cabin, perhaps if I locate the vent hose in the front of the driver's wheel arch it will be the furthest away from the cabin filter?

I disagree, the part of the turbo that needs the lubrication have the lubrication needed (bearings). No other part of the turbo is/should be making any contact so no lubrication needed. Turbos have been carefully designed like this, hence why they have worked for years now.
A bit of oil will never do the turbo any harm, however on certain cars, there may be a little too much so to speak. Again, i couldnt see it doing any harm, but thats where the catch can comes in
