A woman who was offered a free meal by an Audi garage which damaged her car ran up a £700 bill at a celebrated Michelin-starred London restaurant.

Watford Audi said the £714.61 bill was "excessive", and offered to pay half.

In response, Ms Yap said that Audi should have "specified a price limit".

I don't think that Watford Audi should pay all of it!

Mods: I made a mistake in the poll question, it should read: 'Should Watford Audi pay the full bill?' Can you please modify?

Saw this on the news earlier, yes the garage screwed up but they are putting it right and treating their customer to a meal was a nice gesture. £700+ for a meal is taking the p**s IMO, Audi are very kind to pay 50%.

I think its very kind of Audi to offer to pay 50% having looked at what the lady and her mother had, they were taking the ****,

Disgraceful. She was taking the p.ss. The garage should refuse to pay it. Most reasonable people would have got a meal for no more than 200. Giving her half is more than generous. Now I guess she is bleating. Pathetic.

I will bet there were more than 2 people at the restaurant too given how much drink was involved.

Her car was second hand and only cost 20000 for gods sake, mine was new and near double that .

After the hassle I had getting my car and issues I didn't ask for anything but I should be getting over 5000 in compo. Luckily I'm not like her

Maybe the etiquette idiot should pay the bill
No doubt a friend of the greedy idiot

If my £20,000.00 Audi was damaged upon delivery I'd want more than £357 too! Expensive for a meal but so are body shops. Would have asked for the cash or it to be repaired personally but fair play for getting their money's worth.

The garage repaired the car and she got a courtesy car. It is annoying but £700 for a meal for two is ridiculous and greedy. No meal is worth that anyway, Michelin starred restaurants are pretentious and overpriced anyway - and yes I have been to some and yes they were rubbish (nb. my relatives own several restaurants in London and Surrey - which are sensibly priced, are highly rated and have featured in London papers and national tv).

And I thought their tyres were expensive

She's taking the ****. Not only would I not be paying the bill I'd be giving the BBC etiquette expert a violent kick in the ********.
Agreed. What do the bbc know anyway. One if the most biased and backward organisations in the uk.

If her bill was around 200.00 then fine. I just can't believe this made bbc news. I wouldn't be surprised if she works for the bbc

Mind you given audis prices 700 is a fair price, lol

This is the issue nowadays, there is no compassion - just the whole "screw them for all you can get" attitude.

Accidents cannot be avoided, I would consider a full repair, courtesy car and an apology sufficient.

It was nice of them to offer a meal - which the customer took the mick for, and knew it.
If they were regular clientele of that place then they wouldnt be buying a 2nd hand Audi.

Its a shame, as someone at Audi probably got a good bollocking for it and I bet they dont offer the gesture again.

well I would expect that plus some goodwill for the inconvenience eg a free meal of sensible value of £100 for 2 people, maybe £200 if they were being generous - £700 is a joke

Lol, offering a meal on top of a repair goes way beyond goodwill! Anyone who thinks otherwise is being an ****! I deal with hundreds of customers weekly, and there's always a couple that are impossible to please!

I'd be amazed if my Audi dealer offered me McDonalds happy meal as a goodwill if they did something wrong, nevermind a meal for 2!

Audi damaged my car last month, they gave me a brand new courtesy car while my own was being repaired and then waived the bill.
There was no offer of a complementary meal, nor did I expect it.
This pair were royally taking the mickey but, the garage should take it on the chin.

I just realised that it hasn't been posted up the food bill was resolved.

Watford Audi refused to pay the food bill in full, but agreed to pay 50%, but they also gave the other 50% of the bill to a charity of the woman's choice, and she was happy to accept it.

I did get to finish making a rather luxurious latte just before they gave me the good news that they fubar'd my ECU.
I do like my latte over a Bollinger, any day of the week, so I went away happy with their A1.

I hope the customer paid the other half of the bill and the restaurant hasn't had to chase her for the money.

I assumed (possibly wrongly) Audi Watford would have arranged with the restaurant to pay the bill ,after the customer had the meal .
I think if the customer had to pay the bill and claim it back they would not have been so greedy

Let's just say that if the person that gets a rocket over this pours some sugar in her tank at the next service, it wouldn't put me off Audi.
