Hey guys and girls! just wondered if any can help? iv had my AC refilled a couple times now and it runs out in a couple months, then the Econ light stays on. iv had it checked out however they said the garage says they pressure seems fine, they suggested replacing the condenser, but this would cost over £300 (plus then re-gas) and its not a guaranteed problem solver. anyone had a similar problem??

cheers for reading :)

Just a thought Marcus. Have you checked that BOTH of the electric fans are running when you try to turn on the aircon? Other than that, the best way forward is to have a VCDS scan. That should show up any faulty sensors, bad fan controllers and/or pressure problems in the aircon system. Good luck.

Had the same problem with the wife's 2008 1.8 TFSI. Had it done with a service at Audi. Pressure fine and leak tested. All fine for a few months then econ light wouldn't turn off. It was the compressor unfortunately! You could try changing the high pressure switch first as I have heard that's more common and cheaper!

Usually if it's the switch, the econ light still won't go off after a regas but it is more common than the compressor to fail.

I'd definitely try replacing the G65 sensor 1st.

If that doesn't fix it - sell your left arm.

My econ light didn't go off when the car had 6 years. I took to a specialist in AC and it was refilled, it had low gas. But the econ didn't go off. Then i took it to audi and they changed some AC sensor and it has been fine since then, two years have passed.
My advice is to do the same, refill, test for leaks, and get a vcds scan to see if there are any errors.
It may be a faulty sensor and not the compressor like me.
I'm not certain but i think you should use the AC frequently because the compressor needs the gas to stay lubricated. When you don't use it for an extended period, the compressor dries up and it wears faster when it's used again. I may be wrong but i read it somewhere. Hope you get lucky, there are a lot of complaints of faulty compressors in the audi forums.

The Zexel compressor failed in my car 2 years ago. When I saw the cost of replacing the pump and doing everything properly I decided having the cold air was not worth that much to me. I decided to just have a punt on replacing the compressor, and if it didn't work then no big deal. Got myself a Denso compressor from a VW Touran for £50 and swapped them over. Had the gas filled up and it's been fine since, everything working as it should. It's certainly not the proper way to do the job, but I'm on a budget.
