Evening all!
I've seen a great write up on converting an rs6 mesh by cutting the mesh out of the frame and cutting it to fit into the s4 frame..
But that does look like a lot of work and risk! Lol
Especially when the rs6 grille is around £170!

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this or any suggestions?

This is mine.. Against the conversion I've seen..
Looks so good!

I looked into this,

But I've spoke to my mate who works for Audi and going to get a U.S spec blanking plate as that seems far to much work for me to mess up ha!

Lambie - That looks the dogs danglies mate :icon thumright: - If the RS6 grill is c. £170, it's not beyond a realistic cost to do this.

The perenial front plate is always gonna spoil the look, but if your prepared to run with an interior plate or detachable, that'd look keep the look clean. I'd probably see how an import plate would look on mine, see if I could get away with that without upsetting old bill :angrymod:

Will have a hunt for the thread about the mod.........

Haha I really want to do it!
But if I don't get it 100% I'll be annoyed and it'll be a big waste of money lol!

Why don't you just buy the the honeycomb mesh on its own why use a rs6 grill?

Rs6 frame is different to Rs4 A4 bumper so is not streight fit ! That is why the people use Rs6 mesh (cheeper than Rs4 grill) and put it into A4 s-line grill frame ;) DIY CHEEPER that £400 for complete grill - result UNKNOWN !

Because the section from the rs6 grill has a curve in it which would be nigh on impossible to replicate just with a flat sheet of mesh.

I've got a part chopped RS6 grill sitting there with a spare frame that I keep meaning to finish off, but I keep finding myself preferring the look of the RS4 one to be honest - I quite like the centre bar.

Ya I think it looks a bit much without the centre bar.i wonder would it be possible to use the s line mesh/grill as a template to curve a flat sheet of the honeycomb with a hot air gun ?

Think it would be difficult to form the compound curve required satisfactorily to be honest, a simple curve would be quite do-able, so might, I say might, be ok if u were doing a top and bottom section with the no. Plate bar in the centre.
The question is should I get a spare sline grille to do the conversion on ?? I think I prob will !

I picked up a nice used s-line grill and surround a few weeks ago and started to modify it a bit aswell as I wanted something a bit different to the rs4 mesh and normal s-line/s4 grills, in fact I have cut it around a heck of a lot so far, will post up picks when done, but its certainly different.

well, it may or may not workout to be honest as I need a standard non sline grill for my dtm bumper and I originally picked up this sline grill for a few pounds because I wanted the unmarked chrome grill surround that was on it to repaint in brilliant black to refit on my original grill.
Anyway, if works out and looks right then i'll get hold of a standard grill and replicate the mod to it.
Basically what i have done is this, removed all the horizontal slats including those within the central circles section so all that's left are the vertical struts, and the plate section of corse, I didn't think it would like right to start with but now with it all sections removed it does have a very aggressive look now, certainly differs from the norm, I 'll see how it looks when painted up with the surround refitted though before making a final judgement.

Ah , interesting !! Seen quite a few current new Audi models with this design , or at least , similar..... Hope it goes well for the final one :icon thumright:

If you ever want to sell the rs6 grill give me a shout mate, cars looking great by the way :)

Finally done it!
Was a bit nervous cutting both the grilles out but it paid off
Now... what to do with the plate?

I'll take some more pics when it's back down on its wheels :)
And... I'll need to paint the crash bar black so you can't see it

God that looks good!
You got me wanting to do it even more now!

Was it hard?
Take long?

Any tips

Finally got round to painting the crash bar putting the plate somewhere other than behind the windscreen!
But not sure if it looks right :/
Don't want to hide to much of the new grille!

Lambie. Can you give me a call on 07808 583662. I'm going to look at this car tomorrow to buy. Wanted a chat with you as you know it better than the current owner. Especially interested to know about the timing chain parts

Hi everyone, sorry to drag up an old thread, I wondered if anyone had seen this around for sale recently? I'm interested in trying getting my old plates back if the owner didn't mind. According the a plate check it might be off the road at the moment with no tax and mot.
Might be a long shot!
Thanks :)

Pretty sure it was on eBay a couple of times in the last 6months listed as spares or repair
Annoyingly can't find anything on completed listings on eBay wonder what happened to it
