mfsw not working.... am I being daft

Just installed my new ebay mfsw, I had looked though the forums so know I needed the right slip ring and control item ending in q or r, which was there, and the steering wheel harness loom which was a bonus free item with my mfsw, coded with vag com and nothing no lightso or function.... Could not get it work, scanned with vag com, communication error with steering wheel and could not do any thing with the head unit either, I do have the symphony 11 head unit, just want to confirm a) I have not missed any thing b) that I can control the head unit, C) item that would be at fault.. I.E. Harness Or mfsw or slip ring

You experience are all welcome and any comments aprecaited
 
Could be variety of things, does the slip ring have 12 wires slots or 6.

The connection visible from the inside of the mfsw once it's been installed, 6 copper pins I think not two rows of 6, I didn't take any of the plastic cowling off for the install, as didn't need to, should of taken a picture, hindsight is a wonderfull thing
 
Sorry just reread my last post which could be miss leading, the connection is was on about is where the mfsw loom yellow connect plugs into on the slip ring, I did see any other wire connections, I.e. The ones on the back of the slip ring.
 
The front of the slip ring has a connector for the loom, its 12 pin, if the slip ring only has 6 pins inside to connect too, then this is a problem, needs 12.
 
Oh well, that will be that then, many thanks I'll start the ebay such for the slip ring unless u have any.

What's the part number of the slip ring you have fitted.

Looking from the from of the slip ring as it is fitted the connect will have either 6 or 12 pins. The 6 pin one is none mfsw. Also in conjunction with this if you look for the l shaped plug on the reverse there will be 8 pins here on the correct mfsw slip ring and on the non mfsw version these pins are missing.

At the top is the L shaped section which shows where the pins are meant to be (this slip ring is my old non mfsw one)

Below is the front showing only 6 pins where there should be 12
