I have my ipod linked through AMI in my S3. Quite regularly when I switch the car back on it automatically defaults to the very first track on on my ipod collection and does not continue from the track I left it on. This does not happen all the time, just 1 in 3 occaisions.

Is there anyhting I am missing here in terms of settings or do I just need to take it back to the delaers?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Does exactly the same in mine, and did the same in my previous car (Honda). Seems to be no rhyme or reason why or when it happens.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has an answer.

My old A6 (2008 plate) was fine with he same ipod. Software on my ipod is fully upgraded...so I'm really stuck on what it could be!

Yep, same on mine.
No Rhyme or Logic involved.

I hear the first track so often, I actually hate it now !!
Be good to know if there's something that can be done.

Same on my Leon so sounds like it's common across the platform. SD card seems to behave though.

I suspect it's dependent on the iPod itself as I think that's what's remembering where it was as the iPod is actually playing the track and just outputting the audio to the MMI.

FWIW, my iPod Touch never does this and always starts up where it left off, even if I've removed the iPod from the car to sync it and then brought it back - still picks up where it last was.

Likewise I don't have this problem with an iPhone 4S (red collar). It will always pick up where it left off, unless I've done a software update in between. It does get confused if I alter the playlist it was playing in iTunes and go back to play via the AMI, but that's entirely understandable in my opinion. In that situation it still picks up where it left off in the tune, but soon after starts playing random tunes.

Might be an issue with older iPod models, although the OP didn't specify which one he was using.

I think you're right mines an iPod classic 160GB very old but love the capacity.

Hmm could be that then as both my iPod Touch and constvoid's 4S are fine and they're effectively the same from an iPod perspective.

I have the iPod Classic too and this problem only happens about once a month in my A4. I must admit, as little as it does happen, it is annoying!!

Not just the older models, it happens on my touch and my 7th gen nano. Weird...

I don't use an iPod, but I use a USB memory drive plugged into the AMI, and I have a similar issue. I leave it plugged all the time, and every now and then when I swtich the car on it doesn't see there's a USB drive connected. I have to unplug and plug it so that the car recognises it again. And of course it then starts from track 1. This happens with many different USB memorie units, so it's not just a faulty one,

I asked at the dealer and they said this happens because the car cuts down the power to AMI connector after a amount of certain time (with the engine off, I presume). I didn't find that explanation totally convincing (even if the car cuts down power, it should just restore it when turning the engine on and it should recognise the USB memory then). But that's what they said.

I wonder if your iPod issue has a similar explanation. If the car unpowers the iPod after some time, that could somehow makes it go to the first track over again.

I've got an s line i'll try this and let you know

if I remember, if I sleep before this post which I will, i'll forget :p
