So I picked up my car last Tuesday from Audi Coventry but given only 1 key as the other one was not 'computing'. Was told that as soon as the replacement key comes in they'd call me and I could collect from a local Listers dealer.

Got an email today saying that it has to go back to Coventry Audi (Birmingham and Solihull are closer to me) for a couple of hours and they could get the car picked up.

My reply: Will you be sending a trailer/ tow truck? I am not having anyone drive my car to Coventry and back.

Waiting on the reply.

Don't really fancy someone from the stealers thrashing my car up the motorway.

Ouch, but I wonder why they couldn't just have your local audi do it?

I'd just drive it there yourself, it's not very far - no way are they going to transport it on a trailer. It's only a case of coding a new key to the car which they can do while you wait fairly quickly.

Will keep an eye out for a white S3 saloon (I work about a mile from Audi Solihull).

Here's the email:

'Our service department have advised me that the new key has arrived with them and they will just need the car for a couple of hours or so to do the work. I mentioned to them that your local centre would be Watery Lane, however they have advised as we are the supplying dealer and it is a warranty issue we would need to complete the work here.

I am able to get the car collected from you and returned if you can let me know a suitable date?'

That's a slight **** up on their side, did they mention this issue to you before you went to pick up the car?

Nope. Found out on the day. Would have left the car with them if I had known before hand. And the fact that Watery Lane Audi (Listers Service Centre) is less then a mile from where I work, it'll be a **** take if they want me to go all the way to Coventry.

I had a similar issue with my old S3 when as part of the sale I had cruise control fitted. Was meant to be done locally but they changed their tune and had to go back to Sheffield ( I'm from Stoke On Trent ). It was used so let them drive down, give me loan car and then I went up and collected it + a tank of fuel.

But surely a "warranty issue" can be handled by ANY Audi dealer so his logic is surely flawed.

Yeh surely they can get a local dealer to code the key and just send them the details. Stand firm on that or take it yourself and claim some expenses off them.

Expenses will mean a full tank of V-Power for the drive and the 2 hour wait.

^ My thoughts exactly. ^

My supplying dealer was Watford Audi, I now live in Glasgow. By this rationale, I (or at least my car) would be expected to make a 782 mile round trip if a warranty issue were to arise. That just can't be right.

Warranty is anywhere yes, key coding can be done anywhere but dealers are fussy about doing " sale " items elsewhere as the cost to them is higher and internal politics get involved.

Look at it as an excuse for a ride out in your new car............

Watery Lane's a Seat dealer now isn't it?

Birmingham Audi have totally relocated to Solihull.

I'd complain to Audi UK customer services tbh, that's a ridiculous situation.

Any update on this?

I have since had no reply from Ben. Hmmmmm best wait out till Monday but a call to Audi customer service may be on the horizon and will be looking into as many freebies as I can get my hands on.
