1st Official 8V RS3 shots

I'm expecting most standard trim to be exactly the same as the S3. The 'free' stuff will be s-tronic, 19" wheels and that magical engine. Only then can it be priced at £40k.

I think it's shocking that when you buy an Audi RS or S you still have to pay extra for heated seats, sat nav, folding mirrors etc.
Options like this should be standard

As noted - look at the RSQ3 spec. That starts at £43k and spec is not great. Think your right SKAVIA and I'm expecting the same

I've been recently looking at the spec on a new B8.5 RS4, which to me, doesn't seem to bad at all IMHO :thumbs up:

But I do agree, the S3 is missing some 'should have's' :(

The S3 is just an A3 in fancy pants, the chassis is so easily upset and it's very easy to tie it into knots. If you want a quick car, you wouldn't choose the S3, it's cheap pretend AWD is a sham. You can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear.

like for like and in the same price bracket what would you choose?

it amazes me what 'haters' are on this forum, :audibash:
yes the S3 is not perfect, and yes it is built to a price, and it is also a lot better than a lot of cars out there, but the S3 isn't quick really...

Think vegnomeat didn't see the title of the thread.

We are discussing the RS3.....

There was quite alot of vitriol, it almost sounds like borderline jealousy.

If the S3 isnt quick then god knows how slow his disesal feels.

Yeah, the S3 such a slow car... stick to your noisy, dirty oil burner :D

I think a Sepang Blue or Monsoon Grey RS3 could be a possibility - depends a lot on how generous Audi would be on trade in for the S3...

Similarly, it amazes me the number of S3 fanboys on this forum that can't take any criticism of the S3 ;)

and it invariably turns into this..........

Wow...that looks incredible and suitably understated, plus those arches are definitely flared to me...in sedan/saloon shape I think this ticks all the boxes on the looks front. Needs better wheels though...

I "bumped into" a white (with black wheels) CLA45 AMG (saloon) in my work multi-storey carpark here last Friday...we both did a double-take at each other...almost uncomfortable pause...but as he drove off I knew my S3 was(is) by far the better looking car....RS3 will I'm sure be even more killer....MB just too flashy and not in proportion/wheels look tiny on it etc.

At the end of the day you buy what you can afford and what makes you happy...I ticked both boxes...I still love other faster/better cars....but it doesn't make me hate what I've got....and as much as I may want the RS3, I think I'll be just as happy (and richer) in a mildly enhanced S3 that I can drive on real roads

Haters gonna hate ;)

Driving an A45 AMG is an event in itself, all the sensations and sounds, the tactile feedback from the steering and the sheer occasion of the drive. It's one of the few cars that genuinely puts a smile on your face as you're on the edge of grip.

And if that's what you're after, you can forgive the laggy gearbox, tablet interior.

By comparison, my S3 is positively underwhelming, and frustrating to drive on the limits.

Hell, the Golf R is more rewarding to drive than the S3 (and quicker, and has better steering, and better suspension) :)

But the S3 has a lovely interior, as I'm constantly being reminded ;)

Great. I'm glad that's the strongest plus of owning a S3 ;)

Errrmmm...why did you buy an S3 then if you love the MB so much? Just curious

Wheels too small?!?!? That one must of either had the standard 18's sprayed Black or had some winter wheels on as the optional Black 19's look far from small IMO. Especially when you compare it to the standard 18's on the S3 Saloon.

Yep. I've looked at the car from many angles in the flesh, and I'm pretty sure the black 19's were on it...and I think the styling of the saloon with the wheels looks "wrong/odd"....just my opinion and am not a fan....much prefer the looks of the hatchback

The CLA is definitely a Marmite car, that is for sure. The Black 19's are a big looking wheel, but the silver edge doesn't help and makes them appear smaller from some angles I suppose.

I had mine done all Black and think they look 1000x better personally.

^^ Needs some flared arches... :p

Other than the Gullwing Merc SLS AMG Black & the C63 Widearch AMG Black, the rest of the Mercedes range of Cars look like the could Win the 'Ugliest Car Of The Year' Award!!

Not only their Looks, but there one of the Worst Cars for Loosing money & from having a mate that likes them, he's always complaining that his AMG is going back into the Garage for Electrical Faults!!

Before Buying my S3 Saloon, I seriously looked at the New A45 AMG, due to all the Hype surrounding the Power of them for a 2.0 Lump!
I thought the Interior, specially the Bucket Seats, looked awesome.........the only thing I thought that let it down inside was the Kenwood Sat Nav bolted onto the Dash!
When I tried it out, I was well impressed with the Power of the thing, but didn't like the Noise of the Sports exhaust at all......sounds like a Boyracer had put a Cherrybomb on a 1.6!! Also the Flappy Gearbox is'nt in the same League as Audi's DSG version.......I have to say it was pretty poor!
The final thing that killed it off for me was the Rearend of the thing. Its a very ugly Car from the Rear & the shape of it is also abit girly!!
I know that you can never make any 2.0Litre engine sound great.....there just not capable of that, but personally the S3 sounds alotmore solid than the A45!! My only real Criticism of the S3 is that the Suspension is too Soft.....even in Dynamic mode!

As for the New RS3, looks aside, it'll be in a different League to Drive, compared to anything else in its Class, with a Tweaked Chassis & that awesome 5pot Engine.......one of the Best Engines Audi has ever done!!

I bet it looks awesome....best thing you could do to the wheels IMO....in fact I did the same with my poky little 18s :) and now I think they look great :) however I would like to change them at some point....but 19s were not an option here in Panama on the car as they won't bring it here with magnetic ride....

I'm not a hater...I seriously looked at the MB....and I still like it, but only in hatchback form....

Here in Panama the S3 was $56k (with quite a few extra's) versus $88k for the CLA45 AMG....I think the RS3 is going to be similarly priced here as the MB, but for me you get a lot more for your money....and the interiors are not much different just less bling in the Audi...

Please don't shoot me down here but I keep coming into this thread thinking I'm going to see new info on the RS3, but all I see is Audi vs MB and S3 bashing.

Could the threads be split possibly?

Again only a suggestion if it's only me then leave it be.

Welcome to ASN.

What should be interesting, for those us down under is the spec. we get. Our S3s come fairly highly specced as standard and the recommended drive away price for a SB is about $70k , they are saying the RS3 will be similar money to a RS Q3, which makes it about $100K ... quite a premium.

I kind of appreciate it, I would rather have a true picture of Audi as a company and the service Audi & it's dealerships provide, the faults and limits of the S3, same again of the RS3 (as its next on my list currently after the S3) and to know what the competition offer and how they compare to the models I am looking at.

Though it has dulled my excitement for the S3 a bit, but i've no doubt when I see it, I will be like a small child at christmas.

I think the term "moron" is probably verging on the abusive, going by the terms of usage of this forum ;)

0-60 in a S-tronic is only under 5 seconds if you use launch control, which obviously isn't a daily occurrence at the traffic lights.

Without launch control, its slower, given the lack of turbo boost.

Is the S3 a quick car?
With launch control, yes.

In everyday usage?
Probably no faster than your German Barge with a 2.5l diesel or larger.
Especially on the move. A 2.5l diesel or larger will cream a S3 (especially if caught napping off boost, or unprepared in the wrong gear) on the move.

Any S3 driver should beware the 330d or 335d driver. Pick your fights carefully ;)

I would like bulging arches on the new RS3, like the RS4 has & the Clubsport
