Hi,
I have an Audi A4 B8 2.0 S Line, and recently the consumption has gone down by a lot. Now when I start it, I get roughly 18mpg and 30mpg after a bit of driving around. It goes up to usual on the motorway, but now it has gone down whilst driving in the city. Anyone had this issue? Is there a fix, or is it just a weather problem which will go away after some time? Might as well have got a 335i and averaged 25mpg :p.

Assuming its a TFSI & not a TDI?

It will always go down driving in towns/cities, that's normal, I would try zero-ing the average mpg & check what a tank offers as instant isn't the best mpg reading to gauge it via, if this is what you're doing.

It's a TDI, and I know it won't be so high in city driving but it never went this low before.

2.0 tdi doing 18mpg, that's not good at all, something must be up unless its doing regens with dpf often, but its very low, if it was a 3.0 tdi then yes that's expected but not a 2.0.

Scan the car using vcds.

And chuck a bottle of redex diesel or rhino deisel in.

There are always loads of threads this time of the year about poor fuel economy with diesels. It's normal for the fuel economy to read low when the engine has just started. You haven't driven anywhere but you have used fuel. As you do some distance the average will improve.
Diesels don't do as many mpg in the winter due to using winter diesel. This comes in around November and doesn't have the same amount of energy per gallon as summer diesel, however it's cloud point is lower so less likely to cause problems.

The main reason for reduced mpg is the extended time for the engine to warm up,It's not at it's most efficient till it gets to 90 degrees. Most modern diesels have powerful electric heaters to give warm air straight away, these along with fans and lights create a much larger electrical load on the car meaning the engine has to work harder.
City driving is the worst though as the engine takes even longer to warm up.

Sorry, was a bit sceptical at the time of posting as this car just dipped in MPG. Even the S350, heck my nephews tuned 335I does more than that. Taking it in for a service so anyway so I'll see if they can double check there is nothing wrong.
