Hi all, I bought my A3 about 2 months ago now and I've done just shy of 1000 miles, taking it to circa 91k. I checked the mot certificate which was done in July where it had done 88594 miles. On the advisories it has "both front tyres wearing on edges" among 2 other things.
Now having looked at my tyres after doing 2500 miles since the mot they are worn through to the wire on the inside edges

And I also noticed the car had a knocking coming from one side... and found this on the n/s

I paid quite high for the car (£3600) considering the cambelt hasn't been done on 90k and I'm a bit peeved and not sure what to do.

Any thoughts??

It's a 53 plate 2.0tdi

Thanks, Nathan

Im not sure what your gripe is if im honest?
The MOT cert was an advisory on tires so surly you should have inspected them yourself well before covering 2500 miles???
And as for the knocking what are we looking at? anti roll bar?

Well I haven't covered 2500 miles myself if you read the post.. and we're looking at the bar that has sheared off.. just above the wishbone. I haven't driven the car remotely hard given the cambelt needs doing.
I wouldn't have expected that much in change of wear after 2500 miles? That may just be me though. Or I would expect tyres near legal limit on the advisories sheet?

Looks like the anti roll bar has sheered then, easy fix though.
As for tyres it depends how friendly the MOT tester is as to how legal they were on an advisory note.

Will that be the ARB that goes all the way across the front? I guess the tester was very friendly as it was done prior to Me buying it, for the garage, by the looks of it. Thanks for the info

Yeah im guessing thats what it is, chance to up grade it as well, while its being change, but dont go to big as you wil make it to stiff and just promote understeer.

24/26mm eibach perhaps then? The only problem is the price difference is over £100. Think for the time being I'll stick with the original but thank you

bought from a garage? take it back, make them fix the ARB, sort out alignment and give you two new tyres

(6 months warranty by law)

You might want to inspect your CV boot ! all that black gunk around the wheel is an indication you maybe loosing grease from the CV joint !?

So I called them up and they told me the ARB is a service item and not covered under the 28 day warranty they gave me when I bought the car so I gave him the SoG Act and he said fine go for it. I'm going to contact Audi on Friday for a quote on the repair and I've already started a claim. I hate dealers like this with a passion.

It might even be a dodgy brake hose, if you look at that too.. :(

Wouldn't have thought ARB as a service item !?

No me neither. I've started the small claims procedure, just need to get an estimate from audi after new year.

Good luck to you. What is the name of the garage you bought it from ?
