Car locked with keys in the ignition!

Didn't think this was possible. Bummer.

This happened to my mates A3, I was washing it and left the keys in the ignition and shut the door, went to get back into the car and the doors were locked. Luckily he had a spare key.

This is a common problem on the A3. it happened to me at a petrol station!

There is something wrong with the doors, the car thinks the door was NOT opened but detects the lock open so locks. very annoying.

I resorted to rolling the window down every time i left the car with keys in.

This happened to me if the key is in the ignition and the battery us disconnected and connected it will lock everything up fact

Happened to me stopped on side of elevated 105 freeway near LAX. I stopped to rescue a kitten I saw sitting on guardrail. 60 foot drop on one side, 70mph traffic zipping by on the other, no real emergency lane, terrified kitten biting me and ******* on me and freaking out, car running (because I wanted to jam quickly when I finished rescue. The muttaflukker was locked! I barely had drivers window cracked enough to wiggle my arm in far enough to hit unlock button (while controlling kitten with other hand). I got out of that spot, but it rattled me, to be honest.

I was NOT HAPPY AT ALL!

It also happened to a friend at gas station when he borrowed car in front of pump. Station owner was ****** by the time I got there with spare key.

Dealer said they can't change behavior. I am going to prowl around with vagcom and see if they are mistaken... Dangerous design flaw.

The Engineer who posted earlier in the thread is correct - when in doubt and before getting into any repair, open the window at least enough to get to unlock buttons on door. It is never a good time to lock keys in car, so be careful! Especially in the rain. Yes, water inside car sucks, but at least you'll be able to get back into car
